Location: Johannesburg North Core purpose: The core purpose of this job focuses on the responsibility of an Assistant Resident Engineer in the Rail EPCM Environment who will be responsible for Construction Monitoring on a multi-disciplinary railway engineering project under the guidance of a Resident Engineer.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the monitoring of contractor progress of projects on site and keep in contact with the Construction Engineer (CE) and the Resident Engineer (RE).
- Refer significant queries on design/engineering deviations to the Resident Engineer together with approval of materials & alternative design proposals as required.
- Ensure that design specifications/other problems that may be identified on site and that may have relevance to future designs are brought to the attention of the Resident Engineer.
- Ensure that relevant & applicable clauses of the Conditions of Contract to the project are enforced by the Contractor.
- Liaise with the Contractors Site Agent with regard to all aspects of the work and ensure that all site documents are kept updated.
- Ensure that the Contractor and his staff understand the obligations under the OHS & Road Traffic Acts. Ensure that the Contractor complies with all railway standards and specifications,
- Monitor Environmental Management by the Contractor.
- Communicates with the local communities via the Community Liaison Officer and report issues RE when necessary.
- Liaise with the relevant service providers to co-ordinate the re-location of their services.
- Attend and or chair formal site meetings with the Contractor and Client.
- BSc Eng, B Eng or B Tech (Eng). Must provide Certificate with transcript.
- Registered with ECSA as a Professional. Must provide Certificate with registration number.
- Registration with SACPCMP as a Professional is advantageous. Must provide Certificate.
- Experience within the Civil, Road and Rail Infrastructure construction environment.
- 10 years Assistant Resident Engineer experience.
- Have a strong technical background in rail infrastructure construction engineering, as well as excellent project management, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Effectively manage rail infrastructure projects simultaneously, communicate with stakeholders at all levels, and manage project risks and issues.
- Strong knowledge of Conditions of Contract and resolution of claims.
- Excellent leadership and teamwork skills are essential for success in this role.
