Description
The purpose of this position is to be responsible for the effective Supervision of the entire Laboratory shift operation to ensure all Laboratory processes are operational, controlled and maintained. Metallurgical project work and plant optimization will be a major part of the job function
Duties And Responsibilities
- Make sure that laboratory systems and equipment comply with General best practice
- Record, report and interpret analytical data
- Check documents, methods and procedures
- Check work of colleagues where necessary
- Train junior and contract staff in analytical methodologies
- Perform document, record checks, and troubleshooting
- Prepare all routine plant samples and metallurgical project samples
- Ensure that any special test work, project work and plant optimization projects are scoped and conducted according to project specifications and standards
- Project reports to be submitted and presented to relevant forums that may include the client and professional organizations
- Ensure that the laboratory is prepared for research to be conducted and running smoothly and safely at all times
- Implement and update procedures as and when necessary
- Responsible for ensuring optimized functionality of all lab equipment per shift at all times
- Co-ordinate and monitor equipment availability to ensure adherence to production parameters
- Ensure the adherence to the sampling and sample preparation procedures from the point where the sample comes into the lab up to the point where it leaves the lab
- Oversee safety programs for assigned sections per shift and work groups; assists with action planning for safety programs
- Perform administrative duties per shift to ensure record accuracy and availability, and budget compliance
- Stay up to date with relevant literature pertaining to metallurgical process improvements.
- Compile various metallurgical production reports for distribution to Process Superintendent and Plant Manager.
- A Bachelors degree in Metallurgy or Chemical Engineering
- Computer Literate in MS Office
- Valid drivers license code B, EB or C1.
- 2 years experiences in process plant environment and completion of relevant metallurgical training program
- 3 years experience in a metallurgical laboratory is required
- Supervisory experience will be an advantage.

- Knowledge of the chemical composition, structure, and properties of substances and of the chemical processes and transformations that they undergo. This includes uses of chemicals and their interactions, danger signs, production techniques, and disposal methods
