Purpose of the Role
To produce reliable and quality media for testing in accordance with defined quality standards and to monitor stock levels of consumables.
Required Knowledge & Skills:
- Laboratory practices
- Media preparation principles
- Health/safety/OHSA/ISO practices and regulations applicable to a laboratory
- Operating specialised media preparation and associated equipment
- Computer literacy (particularly MS word and excel)
- Verbal and written communication
- Attention to detail and cleanliness
- Able to work as part of a team or independently when required
- Must be responsible, reliable and efficient
- Minimum of 1-year relevant experience in media preparation.
- Laboratory Technician Certificate.
Technical Support
- Perform the tasks related to media preparation, distillation and autoclaving.
- Prepare drag swabs for farm testing.
- Test the conductivity and pH of water on a daily basis or when required.
- Maintain and service the distiller.
- Maintain and regularly test the working condition of all equipment utilised during media preparation.
- Autoclave all glassware as per procedure.
- Arrange for the processing plant to receive bottles and media for daily and weekly sampling or when required.
- Maintain a neat, clean and tidy workspace in accordance with quality standards.
- Monitor and maintain stock levels.
- Order consumable stock, as required.
- Capture invoices monthly.
- Quality of and turnaround times for media preparation
- Sterility of glassware
- Reliability and utilisation of media preparation equipment
- Availability of consumables
- Lead times on results
