Job Description
PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
To conduct professional teaching and research in line with NWU teaching and learning and research and innovation strategy as well as financial industry requirements. Provide strategic leadership and ensure that outputs are of excellent quality and on a global standard.
Key Responsibilities
- Teaching and Learning
- Provide formal teaching of Physical geography for undergraduate and postgraduate students.
- Provide study leading of postgraduate students.
- Uphold a high standard of teaching and learning.
- Actively drive the development of current and new courses where needed in collaboration with other campuses.
- Quality assurance and management of Physical Geography courses offered by the NWU.
- Enable technology and new developments to enhance the offering of Physical Geography courses.
- Manage and partake in student communication and support activities.
- Research and Innovation
- Conduct and supervise research projects as required.
- Drive and grow international collaboration.
- Participate actively in conducting own research and publication and maintain academic scholarship.
- Support engaged research in the faculty through membership/participation with the Unit for Environmental Science
- Community engagement
- Participate in community engagement activities
- Administration and Management
- Develop, initiate, and drive research proposals for external funding.
- Participate in relevant management committees of a research subgroup within the Unit for Environmental Science
- Collaborate and build effective relationships for success model delivery.
- Masters in physical Geography with area of specialisation in Climate change/ Applied climate studies// Big data Coding expertise (NQF Level 9)
- Physical geography or related National Societies
- Publications
- 2 years experience in teaching and learning
- Knowledge of coding in modern programming languages for large data sets
- Proven track record of postgraduate student supervision.
- Proven track record of successfully applying for research funding.
- Proven experience in the presentation of papers at national and international academic conferences
- Leadership and outreach (community engagement) expertise.
- Proven research record of relevant publications in national and international accredited journals.
- Excellent problem-solving skills.
- Excellent computer skills.
- Knowledge of the higher education system.
- Demonstrate language proficiency to function optimally in the multilingual environment of the NWU.
The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.
