PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
The School of Communication at the NWU (Potchefstroom Campus) has one vacancy for a Lecturer in the vibrant and dynamic field of Graphic design with specialisation in Design.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Teaching:
- Teach and develop Graphic/Multimedia Design modules, from first to fourth year level.
- Utilize research in the guidance and facilitation of first to fourth year graphic design projects.
- Contribute to the research requirements of the research niche with which the Graphic Design subject group is part of.
- Secure industry and/or community projects for collaboration.
- Organize projects outside of the scope of teaching to enrich the teaching and learning environment for the subject group
- Contribute to curricular revision to reflect the latest trends in the field, and to build and expand the journalism subject group across all campuses.
- Participation in research projects with colleagues
- Provide study guidance to graduate students on an honours, and masters level.
- Responsible for all administrative tasks with regards to the above.
- Develop and update study guides.
- Administrate student marks and assessment.
- Share responsibility for committee and department assignments as required.
- Participate in services related to the life of the School and the community.
- A Master`s degree (NQF level 9) or 4-year honours degree (NQF level 8) with significant industry experience in Graphic Design.
- A minimum of 2 years experience in teaching and learning.
- A minimum of 5 years practical experience as a Graphic designer.
- Computer literacy in most recent version of Adobe Creative Suite/Cloud: Illustrator, Photoshop, After effects, Premiere Pro, Audition, CharacterAnimate; Blender/Cinema 4D/ Maya.
- Proficiency within an Apple MAC Studio environment.
- Experience within higher education environment.
- Experience within industry related environments.
- Knowledge of theoretical and practical expertise in terms of graphic design.
- Sound understanding of the broad Graphic design discipline.
- An understanding of the broader visual communications industry.
- Liaise with industry and public as needed.
- Demonstration of language proficiency to function optimally in the various multilingual environments of the NWU.
- Team player within groups.
- Sound relations with colleagues .
- Able to work independently.
- Strong work ethic.
