Introduction

NORTH-WEST UNIVERSITY (POTCHEFSTROOM CAMPUS) FACULTY OF HUMANITIES SCHOOL OF GOVERNMENT STUDIES POSITION NUMBER: P003231 VACANCY: LECTURER PEROMNES GRADE: A8 EMPLOYMENT TYPE: PERMANENT APPOINTMENT PURPOSE OF THE POSITION The candidate is expected to make contributions in the teaching and learning efforts of the subject group/ department, school, faculty, and other organisational units or interdisciplinary area within the NWU. The successful candidate must play a role in scholarship of research, community engagement and/or professional activities.

Job Description

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Teaching and Learning
  • Teaching and learning within the subject group.
  • Research and Publication
  • Be able to undertake research, attend conferences and work on their doctoral studies.
  • Supervision
  • Be able to supervise honours research projects at least.
  • Community Engagement
  • Participate in community engagement projects within the school.
  • Administrative Responsibilities
  • Be able to assist students with basic inquiries.
Minimum Requirements
  • A Masters degree (NQF level 9) in Politics and international Relations or related field.
  • A minimum of two (2) years teaching and learning experience in undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
  • Experience in doing research in own studies, conference papers and publications in masters and conference studies.
  • Evidence of postgraduate supervision.
  • Registered for a PhD and be active in research and innovation activities.
Added Advantage
  • Supervision of postgraduate students and publication in DHET accredited journal.

  • Knowledge of teaching strategies and student support.
  • Commitment to the achievement of Subject Groups and Schools strategic objectives.
  • Excellent analytical abilities and innovative thinking, as well as ability to be self-driven.
  • The ability to function well individually and as part of a team.
  • Good organising skills, as well as the ability to work at a fast-moving pace and comply with stringent deadlines.
  • Advanced administrative skills.

Remuneration

The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.
