LLB and an admitted attorney.
Working knowledge of contract law, drafting and negotiations of various commercial contracts, commercial and regulatory law and litigation.
3 to 5 years post articles experience working as an in-house legal adviser or attorney at a medium or large law firm.
Technical skills: Strong legal advisory skills, contracting drafting and negotiation skills, excellent written and presentation skills, strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Key competencies include adhering to principles and values, analyzing, learning and researching, persuading and influencing, presenting and communicating information, writing and reporting. English is the working language.
Activities
To structure, negotiate and draft or review commercial contracts of a significant value for new or existing business, industry or joint venture matters within the ambit of the law, policies and procedures and management approvals.
To provide legal advice on how to structure commercial transactions.
To provide legal advice on issues concerning the operations, finance, strategy or reputation of the company.
To provide legal support to business projects.
To ensure compliance with legal policies and procedures.
To ensure that the company's best interests are protected in litigation matters.
To manage litigation and commercial legal matters dealt with by external attorneys in South Africa and NBE countries.
HSEQ
To ensure high quality output and compliance at all times with HSE laws.
To reduce legal spend by doing as much of the legal work in-house.
Context & Environment
Broad range of legislation and regulations.
Liaison with various stakeholders including lawyers in Paris, government departments, regulatory bodies, other oil companies, senior management, external lawyers and counsel.
