Main purpose
The Legal Advisor role will support the Legal and Compliance Team with the review and drafting of a wide variety of legal documents and agreements, the provision of general legal advice to Internal business stakeholders and by assisting the Company to remain compliant with legal and regulatory requirements.
Key responsibilities
Draft, review and ensure signature of all commercial and operational agreements, including negotiating with third parties to agree relevant terms, as necessary.
Interpret commercial and operational agreements, advising internal stakeholders with regards thereto.
Update existing template agreements and review and advise on non-standard changes to standard template agreements.
Contract management, including monitoring and communicating status of all agreements and manage any issues related thereto.
Ensure the storage and archiving of all agreements, liaising with internal stakeholders as required.
Apply, implement and where necessary, improve on processes and workflows related to the drafting and signing of agreements.
Stay abreast of legislation and law reports that might have impact regarding the operation of the business and/or the validity of policies and/or contractual provisions.
Understand and interpret, with the support of the Senior Legal Counsel relevant legislation and apply regulations to the Companys context, including but not limited to legislation related to companies, protection of personal information, consumer protection, broad-based black economic empowerment, prevention and combating of corrupt activities, intellectual property rights, and labour laws.
Project manage the implementation of new legislation across the business.
Seek external legal advice and services, where required and on the authority of the Senior Legal Counsel and manage the interaction, mandate and costs associated with external legal services.
Support the Senior Legal Counsel by providing advice, guidance and training to internal stakeholders on legal and compliance related matters (including without limitation prevention and combating of corrupt activities, competition law compliance, protection of personal information, consumer protection, infringements of intellectual property rights).
Qualifications And Experience
LLB Degree or equivalent is essential
Admission as an attorney Is desired
Knowledge of or qualification In Intellectual Property Law is desired.
At least 3 years (post articles) of progressive experience as a practicing attorney, legal consultant or adviser in the field of law.
Demonstrated experience in drafting, reviewing, negotiating, interpreting, monitoring and reporting of a wide variety of agreements, as well as ability to interact with, address and resolve internal and external stakeholder queries.
