Legal and Compliance Manager

Our Johannesburg based client, in the betting/gambling space, is looking for a Legal Manager with a minimum of 5 years experience in legal and compliance roles with the gambling industry.

  • LLB
  • Admitted attorney
  • 3-5 years within a similar gambling environment
  • 3 years of legal drafting experience
  • Management experience
Key Responsibilities
  • Providing regular advice to senior management on compliance issues and regulations, and keeping them updated on their obligations under legislation.
  • Identifying gaps in existing processes or arising from new regulations, and taking appropriate remedial actions to close these gaps.
  • Conducting risk assessments of processes and procedures to ensure they meet legal, technical, and operational requirements, especially in regard to Gambling Commission compliance requirements.
  • Handling licensing issues and other compliance matters in existing and future regulated markets.
  • Staying up-to-date with regulatory developments and best practices in compliance control, and educating employees on regulations and their impact on the organization.
  • Conducting compliance reviews within the company, developing action plans as necessary.
  • Maintaining schedules of company property assets, including rents, leases, and insuring requirements.
  • Developing and monitoring policies that comply with legislation, and providing an objective view of company policies.
  • Ensuring requests from data subjects are dealt with promptly and in compliance with privacy laws.
  • Managing periodic audits of data protection compliance within the company and identifying necessary actions for remediation.
  • Responding to privacy and confidentiality matters related to the privacy framework from external regulators, auditors, and clients.
  • Providing advice and interpretation of the provisions of the Data Protection Act as they impact the company's activities.
  • Developing and maintaining data protection and responsible gambling awareness training programs within the company, and delivering training as necessary.
  • Developing, implementing, and enforcing policies and procedures related to third-party suppliers and ensuring that data protection requirements are detailed in contractual agreements.
