Part time / half day position available in a small (for now) legal billing environment (This is not a law firm and we do not appoint attorneys). The immediate plan is to grow the business from a home office to a well-established firm.
Job requirements:
- The position entails working through Attorneys' case files and summarizing the contents into what is called a "Bill of Cost" for said Attorney to deliver the Bill of Cost to his / her client.
- No law degree or legal background necessary. (although it will certainly be an advantage - but everything can be learned.)
- The applicant will require a laptop or computer. Preferably the former.
- The ability to summarize convoluted correspondences into short, cryptic descriptions;
- Sound command of English grammar;
- Ability to identify relevant facts in respect of the circumstance of the matter (from the contents of email, phone calls or telefaxes) and form a succinct description of said facts;
- Ability to grasp legal vernacular;
- Impeccable spelling;
- Open to constructive criticism and willing to conform to a certain manner of thinking;
- Willing to perform administrative tasks (vehicle required);
- We will perform a maximum of one month of training with the chosen candidate(s), after which a decision for employment will be made.
- You will be remunerated at minimum wage during your training month.
- Should training go expeditiously (and it is evident that the applicant is willing to raise the bar to study the Rules of Costs), the quicker the remuneration package will be adjusted.
- Remuneration is commission-based (this is the best way to maximise salary). The more you do and the better the quality, the greater the earning potential. A basic salary with a commission target can also be discussed.
