About The Team

The Central Business Services (CBS) function provides a wide variety of support services to our business and CBS - Contracting & Legal is a key offering within CBS-Advisory. Our team is a national, high performing group of professionals providing legal advice to Deloitte Africa and our respective business leaders. We support our client facing business by providing assistance on contracting and legal requirements. corporate and commercial contracting and legal a client facing engagements and our services.

Job Description

Main Purpose of Job

You will have the opportunity to assist on complex contracting and commercial negotiations and provide internal legal advice, reviewing and drafting of contracts and providing support to the Firm. The focus of the role will be on the advisory services of Deloitte, with an emphasis on contractual support and contract management.

The role entails:
  • Reviewing, negotiating and drafting of contracts for the advisory business;
  • Engaging with client legal teams and external lawyers
  • Adopting a solution orientated and risk-based approach, supporting the team in driving this behaviour within the business and across the firm;
  • Regularly monitoring, assessing and highlighting risk or legal trends and sharing this knowledge with other members of the team
  • Supporting engagement teams with their initial interactions with clients, tender and proposal submissions and contract negotiations.
Technical Competencies

  • The role requires someone with confidence and gravitas that will seek out engagement and interaction with all levels of the organization and leadership, and who displays a hands on can do approach.
Qualifications
  • Admitted Attorney with LLB
  • Strong academic credentials
Minimum Experience:
  • Admitted Attorney with 3 - 4 years post qualification experience as an in-house legal advisor, preferably (but not essential) at a professional services firm, or at a law firm.
  • Good commercial legal experience, with an emphasis on the review, negotiating and drafting of a wide variety of commercial agreements
  • Experience in technology law and IT-related agreements (advantageous)
  • Experience in a legal advisory role to clients
  • Intermediate Computer literacy across MS Office including Microsoft Office, Outlook, Excel and Word
Desired Experience:
  • Previous experience with in an in-house legal advisor role for one of the large professional services firms
  • A clear understanding of todays professional services environment and the regulatory environment governing the provision of non-audit services in a large audit environment.
  • Experience working across borders and with clients from different geographies
  • Understanding of Contract Management Systems
  • Experience in transactions advisory and due diligence legal work
  • Experience in Technology Law and IT-related agreements.
