Role Purpose:
An exciting opportunity is available in the Legal Team in the Momentum Investments division for a Junior Legal Counsel. The successful applicant will be based either at the Momentum Metropolitan Head office in Centurion or in Sandton. The role is a hybrid arrangement.
Requirements
- LLB degree
- Admitted attorney
- At least 3 years financial services industry experience
- Providing general legal services to the business units in Momentum Investments including dispensing legal advice to all areas within the organisation as required.
- A substantial focus area will entail legal drafting, vetting and negotiation of agreements with, internal and external clients and third parties.
- Keeping abreast of legislative and regulatory developments and the creation of presentations for circulation to relevant stakeholders.
- Reviewing, interpreting, implementing and providing opinions with respect to relevant legislation and any regulatory updates in collaboration with the Compliance Team.
- Opinion work (written/verbal and formal/informal as required) in collaboration with the Senior Legal Counsel(s) and/or Head of Legal in the team.
- Legal research on pertinent issues that impact on the Momentum Investment business.
- Presenting and knowledge sharing on legal issues and legislation.
- Knowledgeable in general corporate governance and commercial issues.
- Knowledge and in-depth understanding of the relevant financial services legislation, which shall include, inter alia, the Insurance Act, CISCA, POPI, , Financial Markets Act, FAIS and FICA as well as any secondary legislation that may be applicable.
