Reporting to the Senior Controls Manager, the Planning Manager will be responsible for overseeing schedules, achieves project objectives, and enhances efficiencies through collaboration with an integrated planning team and all project stakeholders. Responsibilities include developing and improving project programs, reviewing and reporting on program performance, providing project improvement techniques and support, and contributing to the leadership team.
The tasks you'll perform
- Support the Planning team (including consultant planning partners) and in establishing and maintaining project schedules to ensure up-to-date data for efficient project management.
- Provide specialised advice and expertise to enhance project planning and execution.
- Adhere to project-specific and company procedures, maintaining consistency and high standards of work.
- Foster collaboration across business units to streamline project processes and achieve objectives effectively.
- Lead project schedule development and maintenance for effective management.
- Ensure alignment of staff composition and skills with Projects & Studies requirements and the Companys strategic plans. Offer specialised guidance to optimise project planning and execution.
- Ensure adherence to project-specific and company procedures for consistent work excellence.
- Facilitate auditing policies, procedures, standards, and plans to enhance service quality and professionalism.
- Actively support the collaboration of internal and external stakeholders to streamline processes and achieve objectives efficiently.
- Facilitate effective implementation and maintenance of project schedules and methods to improve operational efficiency and support business in continuous improvement.
- Promote collaboration across departments to optimise processes and achieve objectives.
- Travel as required to suit needs of the business.
- Facilitate interactive planning (IAP) sessions with project teams to drive schedule framework development and project strategies that identify the various critical paths.
- Management the planning teams individual performance appraisals and prospective career paths.
- Manage the resource loading of schedules to derive progress and related S-Curve graphs.
- Develop and manage earned value management (EVM) reporting and dashboards.
- Liaise with the cost control team and manage schedule change and documentation to support.
- Bachelor of Engineering or equivalent
- +15 years postgraduate experience, 5+ in a similar position
- Cape Town based.
- South African Citizen or Permanent Resident
- Mining projects experience in an EPCM role
- Knowledge in 4D planning is advantageous.
- Must be able to run multiple projects and manage team.
- Must be able to understand typical technical documents such as PFDs, P&IDs, GA drawings, etc.
- Solid technical aptitude, analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision whilst consistently producing a high quality of deliverables, within budget and schedule constraints.
- Demonstrate proficiency with the Microsoft suite of software packages, including Word, Excel, and Power Point
- Proven ability to build and maintain positive relationships with all stakeholders, including clients, contractors, vendors and co-workers.
- Well-developed written and verbal communication skills
- Proven ability to produce accurate and professional complex, technical documentation.
- Proven ability to produce sound finance, project and technical reports.
- Demonstrate the ability to work efficiently in a team and knowledge sharing environment.
- Demonstrate good interpersonal skills and a practical approach to problem-solving.
- Self-motivated with excellent organisational and prioritisation skills, with the ability to manage multiple and varied tasks while ensuring attention to detail.
