ERM is looking for a motivated Managing Technical Risk / Process Safety Consultant to join its Safety Service team in Johannesburg, South Africa.
Our clients are under increasing pressure to manage and improve their environmental, health & safety (EHS) performance and reduce operational risk. Our Safety Services team helps clients respond to these demands and we help clients turn EHS activities from a necessary cost to a value creator. The ideal candidate will have strong technical expertise in technical risk, process safety, and related sustainability areas who enjoys working with clients and supporting consultant teams to deliver complex projects. Responsibilities
As a Managing Technical Consultant joining our team, your key focus will be to support the successful delivery of ERM projects. Technically, the consultant should have experience in some or all of the following areas, for example:
Process Safety auditing (due diligence, compliance, verification).
Process Safety management, compliance programme development and implementation.
Facilitation of Hazard and Operability Studies (HAZOPs).
Facilitation and Compilation of Bow Ties and reports utilizing Bowtie XP or similar.
Risk Assessments (Baseline; FMECA; Issue based; SIL; FTAs; Haz-ids; LOPAs; Fire Risk Reviews etc. on a range of industrial operations such as Mining, Power, Pharmaceutical, Chemicals, Oil and Gas, Food and Beverage etc.)
A knowledge of Behavioral and Human Factors safety concepts.
Understanding of South African and the wider African H&S legal requirements.
Risk data management and analysis.
Experience in resource efficiency and optimization on a range of different types of industrial sites
Working knowledge of climate change services (carbon foot printing, life cycle assessments, climate risk, etc.)
As a Managing Technical Consultant within the team, you will be responsible for:
Managing or coordinating medium to large size projects or whole elements of larger multidisciplinary or global projects as ERM works closely with some of the worlds largest organizations, we anticipate that this role will require close collaboration with our European and other global Safety & Risk teams as well as across our offices in Africa.
Delivering multiple project tasks or components of projects,
Supervising project team(s) and coaching and mentoring more junior staff.
Understanding the interrelationships between ERM services and policies and how these are applied within the clients business model.
Establishing strong working relationships with clients through project delivery.
Developing and growing the Safety & Risk services in South Africa and Africa.
Client liaison, detailed proposal preparation and review, project execution and management.
Client training and technical assistance and
Adhering to ERM Southern Africas and Global Risks policies and procedures.
You will be part of our interdisciplinary and international team and will collaborate with ERM offices in the Americas, Asia-Pacific, and Europe, Middle East and Africa regions. Travel within South Africa, Southern Africa and on occasion to global destinations will be required to fulfil some of the above requirements.
Requirements
Engineering Degree, ideally in the field of Chemical Engineering or Process Engineering or Mechanical Engineering; Fire risk / engineering or related qualifications will be beneficial.
Experience in all aspects of Process Safety, including QRAs, HAZOPs, Behavioral safety and Human Factors programmes, risk management concepts including baseline risk assessments, risk control strategies task risk and continuous risk management
Minimum 10 years experience in Process Safety/Technical Risk/ Fire Risk fields after your academic qualification
At least 4 years of this experience should be in a tech risk PSM related consulting environment with a proven track record.
Experience in aspects of resource efficiency and climate change
Commercial acumen, business development and project management skills
Excellent leadership and communication (both verbal and written) skills
Experience with using data and technology to support clients with Safety solutions
Willingness to travel
Ability to work under pressure
