De Beers Technology has operations in both Cape Town and Johannesburg, South Africa and is part of the De Beers Group. We deliver technical services and technology systems to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of the De Beers Diamond value chain from exploration to diamond recovery. Activities include marine geophysical survey, sampling, mining, projects, engineering, technology development and maintenance. We provide specialized diamond processing and recovery technology for the De Beers Group Exploration and Mining Operations. We are the industry leader in marine mining practices resulting in the most successful and advanced marine mining equipment and operations globally.
The Company has an excellent record in successful project delivery which with over 140 projects delivered in the last 22 years focused on the establishment and development of a fleet of sampling and mining ships and all associated equipment. On the base of this successful track record, we have a strategic intention to expand our project offering to De Beers land-based operations.
Job Description
This role reports into the Manufacturing Function part of the Products and Services Department.
Based on current and anticipated future workload within the De Beers Technologies, Manufacturing team, a need to employ a young and dynamic mechanical artisan to assist in mechanical assembly of De Beers Technologies products has arisen. Due to the small nature of the manufacturing team, the prospective incumbent may also be required to carry out additional trade related tasks.
The requisite skills sought for this position are the ability to read and interpret assembly drawings, then assemble, and integrate mechanical and pneumatic systems and other related activities to deliver quality products.
Your role will include:
- Read, interpret, and assemble trade specific items according to design diagrams and drawings,
- Agility to adapt to changing production schedules and priorities,
- Perform trade related assembly, maintenance, and repair of mechanical aspects of equipment and parts according to maintenance requirements,
- Propose design improvements and best practices in mechanical assembly methods and processes, for a more efficient manufacturing process,
- Contribute towards improvements in assembly procedures and safe work procedures/instructions,
- Ensure compliance with Company policies and procedures,
- Ensure adherence to Health, Safety and Environmental procedures and legal requirements.
Formal qualifications:
- Minimum of N3 Qualification in Mechanical Engineering.
- A mechanical trade certificate acquired from a recognised and approved trade training centre.
- 5 years or more in post qualification experience.
- Experience in a manufacturing environment would be advantageous.
- Computer literate in the Microsoft suite of packages.
- Effective communication skills in English (written and verbal).
- Valid Code 08/EB Drivers License will be advantageous.
- Understanding of a mechanical artisan trade requirements, standards, and concepts.
- Ability to plan and organize work.
- Adaptive to continuously changing work priorities.
- Flexible with the ability to work with different professionals on multiple/varied tasks.
- Previous assembly knowledge De Beers Technologies upstream products would be advantageous.
- Ability to work within a team maintains and nurtures good working relationships.
- Understand and satisfy internal customer requirements.
- Ability to communicate production related challenges / problems and provide assembly progress updates to management.
