Your Tasks
Objectives
Reporting to the Construction Manager and to The Line Manager (Team Lead Construction Management), the Construction Supervisor will work with Project Purchasing & Logistics, System Design, Specialist Consultants, Suppliers, Subcontractors to ensure compliant project execution.
The Solar PRM Supervisor will be responsible for onsite subcontractor management, quality assurance of Solar Trackers construction works (Post, Racks & Modules or PRM), from time to time you may be required to oversee installation of electrical components and civil components on the solar PV EPC projects in South Africa including full responsibility for technical, environmental and safety compliance, quality, schedule, and integration control.
Primary Responsibilities
- Support the efficient, proven and high-quality construction techniques developed by the JUWI organization by supporting the JUWI Team leader (South Africa construction management on solar PV project sites for JUWI Renewable Energies (Pty) Ltd (JUWI South Africa).
- Maintain JUWI South Africa`s project goals (substantial completion date, high safety) while closely aligning project site activities with JUWIs corporate quality management.
- The Solar PRM Supervisor will fall under the mentorship of JUWI Construction Manager. Activities include Posts, Racks and Modules, and may be required to assist in supervising on electrical trade and Civil works, and project commissioning aspects.
- Proactively identify, resolve, and share with JUWI construction Manager.
- Complete construction projects by planning, organizing, and controlling projects; completing quality inspections; supervising sub-contractors and staff
- Accomplish construction human resource objectives by orienting, training, assigning, scheduling, coaching, counselling employees; communicating job expectations; planning, monitoring, adhering to policies and procedures
- Implement production, productivity, quality, and customer-service standards; resolving problems; identifying construction management system improvements and advise the Construction Site Manager
- Accomplish construction project results by defining project purpose and scope; calculating resources required; establishing standards and protocols; allocating resources; scheduling and coordinating sub-contractors and staff (Quality personnel that reports to him/her); evaluating milestone assumptions and conclusions; resolving design problems; evaluating and implementing change orders via Construction Site Manager
- Prevent fines and interruptions by complying with, and enforcing, codes
- Maintain safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following and enforcing standards and procedures, complying with legal regulations
- Ensure all mounting structure, module installations and associated tests are in accordance with the applicable standards and code of practice
- Report any deviations from the Scope of Work to the Construction Site Manager
- Report any unsafe act/conditions to the Construction Site Manager
- Report any quality concerns/defective work to the Construction Site Manager
- Report any environmental concerns/contraventions to the Construction Site Manager
- Responsible for inspection, supervision, and reporting on construction activities in conformance with project drawings, specifications, schedules, procedures, quality requirements and safety standards in accordance with company procedures & processes, legislation, standards, and industry best practice
- Manage of supplier and subcontractor construction resources. Implement KPIs, control and monitor schedule and quality performance against baselines, raise NCRs through the Construction Site Manager and implement corrective action
- Ensure full compliance with the QHSE regulations, legislation, standards, codes, and requirements in South Africa
- Determine resource (persons and equipment) levels to attain schedule milestones and ensure conformance with the construction plan
- Ensure contractual schedule and payment milestones are achieved, including preparation/ compilation of data packs
- Responsible for daily construction reports & records
- Preparation and review of work procedures, QCPs and ITPs
- Train unskilled resources to perform quality control
- Responsible for inspection notifications and coordinating client inspections
- Responsible for incoming material inspections
- Support to the monitoring and overseeing of Solar Posts, Racks and Modules (PRM) installation work on the project to ensure it meets contract obligations, supporting JUWI South Africas sub-contractors in-field work efforts.
- Ensure that JUWI South Africas PV projects are built according to JUWI standards.
- Support project schedules, manage deviations through schedule adjustments.
- Support to ensuring deployed components conform to the JUWI quality requirements.
- Support the commissioning of the PV plants.
- Review and be familiar with vendor requirements and assure that equipment is installed in a manner so as not to void warranties.
- Support coordination with vendors and JUWI South Africa engineers and supply chain for in-field design changes.
- Become familiar with all project engineering, design, and construction documents.
- Assist in the resolution of complex problems with manufacturing firms, sub-contractors, suppliers, and clients.
- Conduct daily field inspections of the work in progress and share any deviations or deficiencies with Site Supervisors and other team members and reporting such deviations to the construction manager timeously.
- Maintain JUWI s high project site safety standards.
- Support JUWI South Africas quality assurance requirements.
- Support the review of plans and procedures periodically and institute changes if necessary.
- Assist in resolution of differences or problems.
- Participate in the review process of all portions of the project.
- Attend Daily Site meetings chaired by the Construction Manager with construction team members and subcontractors
- Multiple per week: interacting with the Construction Manager on site progress, quality, safety, and logistics, within South Africa
- Once a week: Compile weekly reports and submit to the construction Manager
- Attend monthly EMEA construction meetings chaired by the construction Heads
- Construction progress report

Qualifications And Experience
- Civil/Mechanical Engineering Background only on Solar Trackers (Posts, Racks and modules installation).
- Minimum of 5 years construction management experience in electrical infrastructure projects, 2 years utility scale solar PV plants experience
- Good communication skills, written and spoken
- A proven track record in successfully completing construction on time, safely and compliant with technical & quality requirements and standards
- Conversant with construction management (control and monitoring) tools, MS Office, etc.
- Conversant with construction, labor, environmental and safety requirements, and legislation
- Knowledge of Tracker systems and Fixed tilt
- Problem solving ability
