By its very nature, the R&D department undertakes confidential developments within the company and the incumbent should respect the confidentiality of the work to be undertaken.
Key Responsibilities:
- Installation and Setup:
- Install and set up electro-mechanical equipment, including motors, drives, sensors, and controllers.
- Ensure proper alignment and calibration of equipment.
- Work with the R&D Manager and other technicians to implement new systems and upgrades.
- Come up with Innovative new product designs for consideration for further development
- Maintenance and Repair:
- Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and electronic issues on new products.
- Repair or replace defective components, such as bearings, motors, contactors, relays, and wiring.
- Maintain detailed records of design and development activities.
- Testing and Inspection:
- Conduct regular inspections of equipment to ensure proper operation of new products.
- Use testing instruments such as multi-meters, oscilloscopes, and vibration analyzers to evaluate new products in development.
- Perform functional tests to verify designs and ensure systems are operating correctly.
- Safety and Compliance:
- Follow all safety protocols and regulations while performing tasks.
- Ensure all work complies with relevant codes, standards, and safety regulations.
- Participate in safety training and initiatives.
- Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain accurate logs and records of design and development work, including details of parts used.
- Prepare reports on equipment status, develop maintenance procedures, and report on any issues encountered.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors, engineers, and other team members.
- Continuous Improvement:
- Identify opportunities for improving the reliability and efficiency of products.
- Participate in continuous improvement projects and initiatives.
- Stay current with new technologies and best practices in electro-mechanical design and development.
- Learn from the present incumbent in order to be in a position to be his successor
- Education:
- Technical High School
- Associate degree BTech or technical certificate in electro-mechanical technology, mechatronics, or a related field preferred.
- Experience:
- Minimum of 5-6 years of experience as an electro-mechanical technician or in a similar role.
- Experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment is a plus.
- Skills and Competencies:
- Strong mechanical and electrical aptitude (hands on).
- Mechanical/Electrical CAD experience
- Innovative thinker and able to undertake unconventional projects.
- Able to operate unsupervised and to use own initiative to generate new product ideas.
- Proficient in reading and interpreting technical diagrams, schematics, and manuals.
- Skilled in using hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment.
- Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Steel manufacturing setting.
- May be required to work outside normal business hours, including evenings and weekends in order to meet deadlines.
