Main Purpose Of The Role
To report jointly and individually on health-related events, developments and topics for regular news articles to better inform readers on the context of events and to expose underlying issues
Key responsibilities: (The primary tasks, functions and deliverables of the role)
Gather, write and present informative news reports related to health topics, including investigative reports and features;
Perform ongoing research and investigate news events;
Break news of significant national importance through confirmation and accurate sourcing;
Gather and analyse information, have insight into its core and present it as a stimulating, cohesive report;
Keep on top of developments regarding the National Health Insurance scheme, analyse budgetary information and other data and translate this information into engaging articles for readers;
Build up a network of local and national contacts in communities and across the health sector, in both public and private organisations; and
Work closely with colleagues and editors to brief them about stories and how best to utilise the information obtained;
Maintain a daily and weekly news diary, ensuring News24 stays abreast of significant events and briefings.
