Job Summary
To conduct routine and urgent testing of specimens in a Clinical Pathology Laboratory; perform routine maintenance; calibrations and quality control on laboratory equipment and analyzers
- National Diploma/BTECH in Biomedical Technology (Clinical Pathology)
- Current registration with HPCSA as a Medical Technologist (Clinical Pathology discipline)
- Minimum 3 year working experience within a Clinical Pathology environment
- Knowledge and understanding of instrumentation, test procedures and methodologies
- Knowledge and understanding of quality assurance and quality control; understanding and implementation of ISO 15189 requirements
- Basic Computer skills (MS Windows, MS Word, MS Excel)
- Excellent communication skills
- Excellent analytical and numerical skills
- Basic administrative skills
- Knowledge of the Prelink System
- Basic knowledge and experience in Microsoft Word/Excel
- Knowledge and understanding of OHSA (health and safety in a clinical laboratory)
- Experience in differential counts (ADVANTAGEOUS)
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct routine and urgent testing within the laboratory to ensure efficient workflow and timeous reporting of results
- Perform administrative duties in order to ensure effective maintenance of the laboratory’s administrative systems
- Perform maintenance procedures, calibrations and quality control procedures on all laboratory equipment and analyzers
- Assist in training of laboratory staff; participate in continuous professional development (CPD)
- Maintain good customer relations and promote the image of Global Laboratory
