Merchandising Assistant

Our e-commerce platform unlocks the potential of the informal economy and its entrepreneurs by stimulating local trade. We achieve this by providing entrepreneurs with everything they need to serve local markets, including access to supply chains, a local distribution and payment solution, and training so they can grow with their businesses.

Since our launch, we have completed thousands of orders, generating over R6M for hundreds of (Partners). An impact that has led us to secure partnerships with Old Mutual, represent South Africa in the Dubai Expo 2020 Innovation Awards, and become a seed fund winner of SABs 2020 Social Innovation Awards.

We are now looking for a passionate Merchandising Assistant who is highly-organized and detail-oriented. The ideal candidate is eager to assist in the product procurement and fulllment process as well as in general stock management.

By enabling the buying and sourcing function, this role gives the successful candidate the opportunity to shape not just WOMs future but also the future of the informal economy, like being in the front row of The Soils rst gig, or maybe Steve Jobs garage. You decide.

Remuneration: R10, 000 - R15, 000

2.Roles and Responsibilities

2.1 Purchasing and Fullment

Word of Mouth currently employs a drop-shipping model. We purchase, pick and pack all orders the day before delivery. As such, the Merchandise Assistant would be responsible for:

Printing procurement lists;
Updating the system with purchased items and scanning all products out for delivery;
Packaging, barcoding and invoicing all orders for delivery;
Managing team of picker-packers during peak seasons;
Completing quality assurance checks related to packaged orders;
Printing drivers (shipment) lists and arranging orders according to drivers;
Handing over orders to drivers and performing a QA check of orders against the delivery list; and
Re-ordering stationery and packaging related to fullment.

2.2 Stock Management

We need to ensure we are constantly keeping our system up to date with accurate stock levels to prevent disappointments from customers due to stock-outs. Although we currently employ a drop-shipping model, we also hold stock based on the returns that we receive. As such, the Merchandise Assistant would be responsible for:

Scanning in returns and re-allocating them to the correct position;
Checking in drivers returns and collecting and ling drivers lists;
Monitoring stock levels of products and highlighting when we are running low on stock of top sellers;
Data analysis for buy-ins of product; and
Performing Monthly stock counts.

2.3 General Administration

As part of your role, we may require you to do some general administration tasks such as:

Communicating with Partners and Customers to answer queries on stock levels; and
Running the "collection" process where customers collect their orders directly from the warehouse facility.

3. Skills and Experience

3.1 Technical Requirements

1-2 year of experience or relevant training in the retail;
Relevant diploma/degree in retail or business.

3.2 Skills and Behaviours

Excellent organisational skills;
Adaptable individual, comfortable with ambiguity and constant change;
Good at adopting new technology and systems e.g. online project management software, inventory management systems etc.;
Detail-oriented individual; and
Eager to learn, and work independently as well as in a team.
