NDT Welder Technologist

We have an exciting position for a NDT Welder Technologist to join our Sishen team. You will conduct services and maintenance of equipment in the section according to correct procedure and safety standards and within specific timeframes, in order to assist the team in the functioning of its objectives.To conduct work on various equipment pieces (HME / Plant equipment).

Kumba Iron Ore

We produce high-grade iron ore, the key component in steel widely used in construction and manufacturing across the world. Our activities include all aspects exploration; mining; processing and blending; shipping; marketing and selling. In South Africa, we have mining operations in the Northern Cape province, as well as a head office in Centurion, Gauteng, and a port operation in Saldanha Bay, Western Cape.

Job Description

Responsibilities will include:
  • The development and compiling of NDT techniques and procedures.
  • Establishing reading frequency according to legislation and OEM.
  • Co-ordination of OEM scheduled testing and data storage.
  • Make recommendations based on interpreted data and maintenance history of the equipment and provide accurate prediction as to the safety, serviceability of machinery and equipment.
  • Training, support and auditing of LMI NDT functions, testing of statutory equipment and potentially dangerous ensuring compliance.
  • Managing findings of first line NDT and discussing with the relevant responsible persons to ensure speedy corrective measure before damage can occur to equipment or compliant repairs initiated.
  • Root cause failure analysis, investigations and reporting.

  • Monitoring of problem areas to establish the service life of equipment.
  • The continuous and periodic measurement and interpretation of data to indicate the condition of equipment so that the need for repairs can be determined.
  • The monitoring of identified problems to enable the planning of a machinery downtime, thereby preventing unplanned downtime.
  • An understanding of NDT progression and failure history as well as equipment usage is used to recommend re-designing of repair tasks to minimise the impact on production.
This role is intheMobile Equipment Maintenance department ataGrade 6.10 levelreporting tothe Section Manager Diagnostics.

Qualifications
  • Grade 12.
  • BTech or Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
  • A completed FAIW qualification is advantageous.
  • Valid South African Drivers Licence.
Experience:
  • 2-5 years experience in NDT / Quality Inspection.
  • 5 years experience (Mechanical Technician experience, oil analyses, vibration analyses on Mining and Plant equipment will be an advantage).
  • Root Cause Failure Analysis experience.
  • Relevant project planning experience.
  • Previous management experience advantageous.
