NORTH-WEST UNIVERSITY (POTCHEFSTROOM CAMPUS) FACULTY OF HEALTH SCIENCES POSITION NUMBER: P001229 VACANCY: CLINICAL PRECEPTOR PEROMNES GRADE: P9 EMPLOYMENT TYPE: FIXED - TERM APPOINTMENT PURPOSE OF THE POSITION: Due to our increase in student numbers, we need this position to be filled and to accompany and support students in obtaining clinical skills in the healthcare context. This post is a new post and will be funded from the Clinical grant.
Job Description
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Undergraduate Programme
- Liaison with clinical facilities where students work regarding clinical placement and the clinical needs of the Undergraduate programme.
- Arranging orientation of students in clinical facilities prior to working in these facilities.
- Give electronic feedback to lecturers regarding placement of students.
- Provide lecturers with monthly placement report of students.
- Provide students with clinical and professional supervision in practice and in simulation.
- Provide students with guidance in simulation and in practice during clinical performance of procedures.
- Demonstrate and give in-service training to students during practical (in simulation and practice).
- Administer practical examination in practice and in simulation.
- Facilitate the integration of theory and practice as well as higher level of thinking.
- Facilitate learning to ensure optimal patient care, competency in the necessary skills and achievement of set outcomes.
- Monitor and supervise students ability to achieve learning outcomes.
- Support and guide students in emotionally challenging environments and situations.
- Facilitate students problem-solving skills.
- Give constructive feedback to students.
- Maintain a close working relationship with academic personnel.
- Assist academic personnel in the formulation of learning outcomes.
- Assist in the development and maintenance of the simulation laboratory.
- Facilitation of learning to students in the simulation laboratory when necessary.
- Preparation of the simulation laboratory for practical demonstrations/ classes and exams as well as cleaning up after demonstrations/ classes and exams.
- Keeping up with the latest trends of Provincial and Private hospitals use of equipment and consumables.
- Schedule duty rosters for students placement in clinical practice.
- Checking hour lists and reporting this data accurately on a continuous basis.
- Attending to enquiries of the students regarding hours worked and absenteeism from clinical practice.
- Give feedback to the lecturers regarding hours worked and reporting of students who do not comply with the minimum required clinical hours.
- Ensuring that students do not work more hours per week than prescribed by the Labour Relations Act.
- Assist students on a daily basis with clinical enquiries.
- Assist with the marking of clinical assignments, patient studies, midwifery registers and assessment tools.
- Writing of incident reports and the reporting of incidents when necessary.
- Promote involvement of permanent staff in clinical facilities in order to maximize learning opportunities for the students.
- Act as advocate for the students.
- Display professional behaviour through interpersonal skills, dressing code, general appearance and use of correct language.
- Be a role model to students.
- Keep up to date with newest trends and best practice guidelines.
- Be available to assist, when necessary, with community service.
- Assisting/ guiding students with injuries on duty.
- Record and report all injuries on duty.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- A degree or Diploma in Nursing Education and Nursing Management (NQF Level 7).
- A 4-year degree in General Nursing Science or Midwifery or Community Nursing Science (NQF Level 8).
- A minimum of 3 years Clinical experience in Professional Nursing.
- Proof of professional Indemnity.
- Proof of Registration with the South African Nursing Council.
- Computer skills.
- Demonstration of language proficiency in order to function optimally in various multilingual environments of the NWU.
- Valid code B drivers license
- Sound interpersonal and intercultural skills.
