Job Description
Teaching & Learning
- Teaching of postgraduate modules
- Conduct tutorials, practical classes, demonstrations, workshops, and student field excursions.
- Actively involved in the development of new courses
- Develop, register, coordinate, and present short learning programmes (SLPs).
- Initiate research projects and supervise PhD, MSc, and BSc (Hons) students.
- Conduct own research, publish, and engage in third stream income generating projects.
- Drive and grow international collaboration.
- Maintain academic scholarship and be involved in professional organisations.
- Take a leading role and participate in ongoing community engagement activities/projects.
- Development of projects to benefit the community with relation to water sciences.
- Assist and take proactive actions to develop members of the Centre.
- Serve on related research/ethics/integrity/management committees.
- Knowledge of the appropriate assessment theory and practice to enhance student performance.
- A proven publication record in accredited scholarly journals.
- Evidence of supervising post graduate students (M and PhD level).
- Record of national and international networking, collaboration, and recognition.
- Develop, register, coordinate, and present Short Learning Programmes (SLPs).
- Applied groundwater (MODFLOW; FEFLOW) hydrological modelling (HEC-HMS; HEC-RES; SWMM) and/or hydrochemical modelling.
- Competency in data analysis and data mining.
- Effective communication skills.
- Good interpersonal relations and a client-service orientation.
- The ability to function well individually and as part of a team/subject group.
- Good analytical abilities and innovative thinking, as well as ability to be self-driven.
- The ability to solve problems independently.
- Good Time-management and problem-solving skills.
- Good planning and organising skills as well as good report writing skills.
- A high level of professional and ethical conduct.
- A PhD (NQF level 10) in Geohydrology/Hydrology with specialisation in applied hydrogeological/hydrological modelling OR Civil/Water Resource Engineering with hydrological modelling OR Hydrochemistry/Hydrogeochemistry/Chemical Engineering with chemical modelling
- Professional registration with the South African Council for Natural Scientific Professions (SACNASP) or Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA)
SENIOR LECTURER
- A minimum of three (3) years relevant work experience in the subject group.
- Evidence of independence and initiative in research, applied or creative works (which may be related to their PhD)
- A minimum of five (5) years relevant work experience in the subject group.
- Evidence of independence and initiative in research, applied or creative works (which may be related to their PhD)
Senior Lecturer
- A minimum of three (3) years sound practical experience to lead students in work integrated learning.
- A minimum of three (3) years teaching experience at a tertiary level.
- A minimum of five (5) years sound practical experience to lead students in work integrated learning.
- A minimum of five (5) years teaching experience at tertiary level.
The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.
