Occupational Hygiene Assistant Underground Ops

CONTEXT:

Sets daily, weekly and monthly ventilation and occupational hygiene routine schedules
Determines the need for, and assists in the development of ventilation and occupational hygiene procedures and standards
Advises on changes to plans and schedules to minimise the effect of unexpected or unsafe work practices
Stops the operation if the working conditions are unsafe/unhealthy
Interpret and act on ventilation and occupational hygiene related legislation

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE:

The Occupational Hygiene Assistant is responsible for assisting the Occupational Hygienist in maintaining Ventilation and Occupational Hygiene systems and programmes and provides his / her immediate supervisor with information and to ensure a safe and healthy work environment.

WORK OF ROLE (INCLUDING AUTHORITIES AND OUTPUTS)

Work of Role

Measure compliance to Section 11 and 12 of the Mine Health and Safety Act (Occupational Health Risk Assessment and Monitoring)
Measure compliance to the Environmental Engineering and Occupational Hygiene Regulations of the Mine Health and Safety Act pertaining to monitoring and reporting at Business Area level

ROLE RELATIONSHIPS:

Managerially accountable to Occupational Hygiene Technologist Direct reports
None Key internal role relationships Employees of the Operation
Assist with investigations
Obtain legislative interpretation
Accompany on regular visits

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS QUALIFICATIONS

Matric
COM Intermediate Certificate in Mine Environmental Control
Certificate in Basic Ventilation and Occupational Hygiene measurements
Advantageous: Registration with the South African Institute of Occupational Hygiene (SAIOH)

EXPERIENCE

Experience of at least 3 year in the Mining and / or Refining environment of which Practical experience of at least 3 years in the Ventilation and Occupational Hygiene field
