What You Can Expect
The Operational Efficiency Manager is responsible for elevating the maturity of all Commercial Operations Processes in South Africa; including but not limited to: inventory efficiency & control, distribution optimization, order to cash improvement, Operational Excellence deployment & Project Management.
The role is critical to ensuring minimum controls & standards are clearly defined & adhered to for all Commercial Operations process areas in the market.
The role also focuses on ensuring accurate continuous inventory records and internal controls for all South Africa inventory holding locations. This includes cycle counts for Warehouse and Consignment stock and perpetual inventory adjustments for these counts. This requires supervising a team and collaboration with various functions in the Commercial Operations Team.
The role is critical in initiating Operational Excellence activities & projects with focus on introducing lean principles that result in direct operational improvements in the warehouses.
How Youll Create Impact
Inventory Management
- Continuously assess stock levels in consignments, regional warehouses & main warehouse to ensure the required stock levels are fulfilled, including safety stock analysis, consignment turn review, and others
- Excess & Obsolesce (E&O) Management for all inventory in South Africa, including assessing E&O potential, optimization plans, and execution (returns, safety stock adjustment, etc.)
- Manage product receiving from suppliers according to the inbound processes within SAP
- Manage daily replenishments to customer consignments and branches
- Oversee product needs of branches & consignments and manage replenishment order creation in SAP as needed
- Recommend adjustments to inventory / instrument levels to maximize performance
- Ensure cycle counts for the Warehouse and the consignment are accurate, reasonable and completed in a timely manner.
- Monitor expiring and quality hold stock (internal and external)
- Coordinate product recall activities
- Interacts with supporting teams to ensure proper controls on product introductions, launches and withdrawals.
- Review distribution parameters to identify & execute improvements in cost-to-serve & service levels to customers
- Provide continuous reporting on distribution vendor performance vs. agreed service levels
- Design & roll-out network footprint optimization projects to enable efficient operating models
- Review & improve instrument and inventory productivity with Regional Sales Managers
- Assess & improve instrument turns in loan/consignment operations & implements improvement actions
- Develop & roll-out aligned governance process for managing the markets capital expenditure in line with market growth & asset turns
- Champion & execute initiatives aimed at elevating operational efficiency & improving quality outcomes of all Commercial Operations processes in the market
- Roll-out Lean methodologies & tools across all South Africa sites including 5S, GEMBA, Daily Management Boards, Quality controls & others.
- Identify & address key non-value adding activities within warehouse operations using lean principles & standard process flow.
- Train warehouse staff on basic lean principles & help them run projects to improve process performance and simplify activities
- Process Analysis: Analyzing existing processes and systems within an organization to identify areas for improvement and increased operational efficiency. This involves conducting thorough assessments, identifying bottlenecks or inefficiencies, and developing strategies for improvement.
- Performance Monitoring: Monitoring and tracking key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the efficiency and effectiveness of operational processes. This includes setting targets, collecting data, and analyzing metrics to identify trends and areas requiring intervention.
- Process Improvement: Developing and implementing strategies to streamline and optimize existing processes. This may involve identifying and eliminating redundant steps, automating manual processes, or introducing new technologies to enhance efficiency.
- Documentation and Reporting: Documenting process changes, creating standard operating procedures (SOPs), and preparing reports to communicate progress and outcomes to relevant stakeholders. This ensures transparency and accountability in the operational efficiency initiatives.
- Bachelors degree in Supply Chain, Finance, Business Administration or other technical field, will be an advantage
- Master Degree preferred
- 5-7 years Experience required in Operational Efficiency roles or equivalent work experience.
- 5 years progress experience in Distribution Planning
