The solar energy industry is growing faster than ever and our client, an innovator and manufacturer of solar tracking products, is no exception. With rapidly expanding operations in South Africa, they are on the hunt for an Operations Director someone with experience and a bachelors degree in industrial or civil engineering.

Our ideal candidate must have 3-5 years of experience in an operational role. Your confident communication style and people management skills will enable you to ensure proper operations of the company by constantly engaging with vendors, suppliers, and customers. This key aspect of your position will allow you to assess vendors for your suppliers and further evaluate and select subcontractors.

Project management experience will further set you apart as you will oversee PM tasks directly related to assigned projects. You will be responsible for analysing the daily and weekly reports and integrating these into the master project schedule for effective monitoring and management of weekly delivery schedules and weekly construction rates. Your knack for prioritising tasks will enable you to drive the workflow of your teams by prioritising requests received from customers and seeking quick resolutions, as well as handling incoming RMA requests from customers and working with them to resolve faults.

You will further be responsible for managing risks by detecting and reporting contractual risks in project execution and further analysing, implementing, and monitoring possible mitigation or elimination measures. With your strong communication skills, you will be well-positioned to communicate these risks as well as project performance, firmware rollouts, and new developments, to key stakeholders and to prepare official correspondence with clients.

From a technical perspective, you will be responsible for performing pre-commissioning and commissioning for GCS installations and training and inspection of GCS system installations for customers during various phases of installation. You will have the opportunity to make key customer and construction site visits and you will be responsible for site attendance to plants under construction.

Responsibilities

In this role, your primary responsibilities will involve assessing, evaluating, and selecting vendors and subcontractors for both suppliers and clients. You will be tasked with overseeing project management, monitoring the status of daily and weekly reports, and analysing the master project schedule, weekly deliverables, and construction rates. Another crucial aspect of your role will be to prioritise customer requests, seeking resolutions and managing Return Merchandise Authorization (RMA) requests from customers, actively working with them to resolve faults.

Additionally, you will play a key role in managing risk by identifying and reporting risks in project execution, and assuming responsibility for implementing mitigation and elimination measures. As part of customer support, you will conduct training sessions during installation, and perform pre-commissioning and commissioning for GCS installations. Your duties will extend to conducting site visits for key customers and construction sites, as well as attending plants under construction. Effective communication with stakeholders and the preparation of official correspondence with clients will also be essential in ensuring the smooth execution of projects. Overall, your role will be multifaceted, requiring a combination of analytical skills, project oversight, customer engagement, and effective communication with various stakeholders.
