Operations Manager - Manufacturing- Nigel

The Operations Manager will be responsible for the successful management of the Distribution Center site, shipping/logistics, warehousing, and Order management. In addition, closely working with the senior team to ensure that optimal maintenance and security sustained. The individual is required to ensure the effective forward planning of materials and components to meet Sales forecast and will work closely with the Regional Sales Manager to ensure on time delivery of systems and components. This person needs to ensure that correct planning is in place to ensure efficient use of available shipping slots. Their logistics and shipping team will be responsible for all warehousing functions including the physical inventory.

Education level: bachelor's degree in engineering / Business Management / Supply Chain / Logistics and/or equivalent experience.

Experience: Minimum 10 years experience in the Production/Operations management with Distribution environment within industrial sectors, with exposure to a unionized environment. It is vital to have been a spearhead with versatile teams and executed successful transformation plans with thorough understanding planning are a must. Strong software experience in. Experience in working with multicultural environment is desired.

Specific knowledge, skill, ability, and requirements: The candidate is required to be proficient and conversational in both English and Afrikaans languages. They should the ability produce results positive work under pressure, meet solid deadlines and resolve conflict. They must have excellent analytical, negotiation, verbal and written communication skills are essential. Must have sound knowledge on Microsoft products such as Excel, PowerPoint, Teams etc. they also be Commanding on LEAN management, Agile management, and Business Intelligence tools as PowerBI.

Site Operations: Warehousing, Shipping & Logistics:
  • Maintain a Safety environment by partnering with Safety EMEA coordinator and ensure VSI score target is 10.
  • Maintaining effective inventory control records and system procedures.
  • Determine obsolete, slow * nonmoving inventory and develop action plan.
  • Actively support Shipping and Warehousing cost savings projects.
  • Responsible for following the system (IT) processes and report incidences.
  • To meet department variable and period budgets and supervise the department in such a manner to ensure the highest level of efficiency while meeting budgets.
  • Apply LEAN tools to effectively run the continuous improvement journey and reports any event occurred out of the SOPs.
  • Maintain a proper data a process flow for all the Aftermarket and Ancillary parts.
  • Control & Direct preventive maintenance in production system.
  • Program logic control for proper equipment operation to ensure ZERO lost time.
  • Develop efficient processes that ensure segregated duties are defined to the operational needs.
Order management
  • Responsible of customer satisfaction in regards of information's provided and data flow.
  • Responsible to accurately answer on time to the customer orders.
  • Closely work with customer to define shipping dates.
  • Responsible to maintain the SCOT metric over 90%
  • Responsible to provide Finance and Sales accurate information about what to ship and when in terms of financial figures.
  • To follow up systems (V2O, QAD) and define process and communication over the system capabilities.
  • Keep an updated information in CSAT SalesForce tool.
  • Define KPIs that helps to understand the level of business (number of orders, variability, sources) and the performance of the site to accomplish them complete and ON time.
  • Apply LEAN tools to effectively run the continuous improvement journey and reports any event occurred out of the SOPs.
  • Define Lead times depending on the type of order to communicate properly and manage sales expectation while setting benchmarks to improve
General
  • High awareness on effective South African labor relations practices is followed and are consistent with contractual obligations and policy administration while promoting a work environment conducive to people improvement and motivation of the production work force.
  • Maintain a professional and respectful relationships with the rest of the departments, especially Sales and Finance.
  • Benchmark and motivate subordinates to produce optimal results in their roles.
  • Develop their Total Production Manufacturing (TPM) capabilities, develop their management talents, and encourage creativity at the supervisory level so that a constant supply of qualified supervisors is available for positions of greater responsibility.
  • Keep the team motivated and partner with HR department to utilize talent properly to ensure regular check-in are made.
  • Ensure that the onboarding and off-boarding of employees are executed according to the company processes.
