Responsibilities:
Statutory Responsibilities: Annual tax returns for approx 24 Companies and 14 Trusts:Review and assist the finance teams with compiling tax returns and maintaining appropriate supporting documentation.
Key point of contact with external tax advisors
Lead process of resolving SARS audit queries on tax returns / provisional tax filings
Administrator of SARS e-filing profile includes:
E-filing submissions
Processing any public officer changes
Managing user access rights and maintaining registered SARS details for all entities (Funds and management companies)
It3(t) submissions to SARS for Trusts
Dividend submission as required
Tracking and attending to any verification requests from SARS through to completion.
Finalise tax obligations for liquidated companies.
Provisional Tax:Assist the finance teams with all provisional tax calculations.
Prepare, review and issue annual and provisional tax letters to beneficiaries of Co-Investment Trusts and Partners of Investment Partnerships - including:
Process taxable income calculation for certain Trusts which determine the taxable income due to the beneficiaries.
Assist in answering queries from beneficiaries/partners.
Tax Projects:Manage ad-hoc tax projects and work closely with finance and deal teams on transactions, both involving corporate management company and portfolio of fund investments.
Work with finance on fund structures.
Provide tax insight, using tax advisors if required, on carry and incentive programmes and structures.
Conduct research on relevant tax topics or changes in tax legislation.
Prepare tax workbooks for internal use post any project or topic, summarising all aspects, warehousing the relevant documents etc.
Stay up to date on tax relating to transfer pricing and exchange control to support investment teams.
Ensure all documentation relating to anything tax related is filed accurately and completely.
FATCA / CRS:
Over time, potentially take on FATCA/CRS responsibilities: This includes but is not limited to:
Obtain FATCA/CRS self-certification forms for all investors.
Annual reporting required of all foreign investors to SARS.
Collate financial information required for the annual reporting from the finance team.
Submit reports on SARS e-filing-Liaise with external service provider assisting with data submissions to SARS.
Management of all FATCA profiles and classifications (including for CRS) on the IRS system.
Main liaison with offshore advisors in respect of providing required financial information.
Requirements
- CA(SA) qualification highly preferred; alternatively, HDip Tax with exemplary academic results
- Minimum 5 years experience ideally in a tax division of an audit firm / similar
- Understanding of company structures
- Extensive experience in tax returns, knowledge of latest tax legislation, etc
- Experience with all types of company taxes e.g. income tax, capital gains tax, dividends tax, interest withholding tax etc
- Exposure and understanding of preference shares, transfer pricing and exchange control regulations
- Independent worker proven ability to run with projects and manage stakeholders and deliverables. Self-motivated

- Strong communication skills (written & verbal) and the ability to articulate and frame arguments / points
