THE PURPOSE OF THE JOB
The payroll Officer accountable to the Senior Manager: Finance, will be responsible for running the monthly pay runs and
ensures that its complete, valid and accurate by performing validation checks prior to submission to the Senior Manager for
review. The Payroll officer will also be responsible for accounting for payroll in the financial system accurately and
implementation of payroll and leave related internal controls in the Finance Division.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS & EXPIRIENCE
- Relevant National Diploma or degree in Human Resources or Finance Management.
- 5 years’ experience in a similar role
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Ensure that payroll for Board and Distributing Agencies and staff is remitted timeously
- Check accuracy, validity and completeness of payroll as submitted
- Perform monthly variance analysis on payroll
- Perform payroll related reconciliations for review such as
- Reconciliation between payroll system and finance systems
- Leave reconciliations
- Recons between payroll, the general ledger and the bank statements
- Reconciliation of payroll between Oracle E-Business Suite (EBS) and Payday (Parallel systems are currently in place)
- Accounting for payroll related transactions in the financial system
- Checking that payroll has been run correctly on the payroll system (i.e. Oracle E-Business Suite)
- Communication with South African Revenue Services (SARS) for SARS related matters affecting the organisation
- Issue IRP5’s
- Complete SARS returns (e.g. EMP 201, EMP501)
- Monthly journals for leave provision
REQUIRED COMPETENCY AND SKILL
- Extensive Knowledge of Payroll administration and Processing
- Attention to detail
- Accuracy with numbers
- Knowledge and understanding of laws on payroll related matters (e.g. Income tax Act)
- Understanding of payroll and accounting software, particularly EBS and Oracle
- Communication skills
- Analytical skills
- Moderate to advanced Excel skills
