Were looking for a Data Director to join our growing team to enable Peach Payments to take data driven decisions at all levels of the organisation. This is an opportunity to lead Data at Peach in our effort to expand our business in Africa. The goal for Data is to provide the right insights, so that, as Peach, we make data-driven decisions that benefit our merchants.

We're looking for a leader who can learn fast, figure things out independently and show us better ways for solving complex problems in the ecommerce space.

You will report to Ernst Janse van Rensburg Peachs Head of Product.

How youll be making a difference:

Build a strong Data team

• Hire and onboard the best talent
• Develop data skills in the team as well as across PeachSet a culture where your team feels they belong and where they want to engage
• Mentors the team, grow and bringing out the best of the data insights team

Give direction

• Focus on those aspects that make an impact on Peach goals and north star
• Engage with senior stakeholders, setting priorities and communicating those priorities across Peach
• Ensure that the best data architecture practices are in place at Peach
• Clarify the ways of work between Data and the rest of Peach
• Set clear achievable expectations for each of your team members
• Identify gaps in our data strategy and help solve them
• Partner with other teams to develop tooling and enable them to do analysis themselves
• Automate reporting and visualization of key metrics

Lead by example

• Others learn from you as they see your world class application of data analysis
• Create analyses that tell a story focused on insights, not just data
• Continuously explore new best practices and bring those to the team
• Take the lead on key data initiatives
• Apply models on large datasets to measure and predict results or outcome

What wed like you to have:

• 4+ years experience leading teams
• 8+ years experience in a Business Intelligence, Data Engineering, Data Analyst and/or Data Science role, with a focus on analyzing large data sets to solve problems
• Able to lead both Data Scientist/Analyst teams as well as Data Engineering teams
• Strong technical understanding of data architecture
• Post graduate degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering, or a related technical field
• Entrepreneurial spirit that thrives in a fast paced environment, deals well with ambiguity and focuses on driving impact
• Proven ability to work cross-functionally, building and maintaining trust with internal stakeholders
• Curiosity to experiment with the most modern tools
• High attention to detail including precise and effective communications
• Hyper focus on and intuition for understanding the underlying needs of the business
• Knowledge of SQL
• Prior experience with visualization

We are a hybrid team.

This means that our teams split their time between the office and work from home. Different teams are required to be in office on a certain number of days per week and this may be changed by the company as required. To work from home, we expect you to have a home or other office set-up, with reliable internet access. In certain cases team members are based >50km from a Peach office and then with prior agreement the individual may work remotely however please make the hiring team aware if this is the case for you during the interview process. . We may, from time to time, request such team members to come to the office or travel to a location out of your area for complete team Meet-Ups
