Pharmacist Assistant – Post Basic
SM Healthcare Placements is inviting applications from suitably qualified individuals for the position of Pharmacist Assistant – Post Basic based Durban, Kwa-Zulu Natal for an exciting role within an International NGO in the health care field.
The incumbent will be responsible for assisting with managing and improving medicine supply management at health facilities; implementing systems and essential medicine programmes to reduce the frequency of medicine stock outs to meet the needs of the district health system and the IDP.

The following are the qualifications, experience, knowledge and attributes requirements:
Education, Training and Experience
- Grade 12.
- Certification as a Post Basic Pharmacist Assistant
- Current registration with The South African Pharmacy Council(SAPC)
- Knowledge of good clinical practice (GCP)
- Code B(08) Drivers Licence and own transport, ability to drive
- Good Clinical Knowledge in the field of HIV/Aids
- Computer literate (ability to work with Ms Word, Excel, Powerpoint)
- 6 months relevant experience
- A vast knowledge of a computerized stock control system (RX Solution) is essential for this post.
- 3 years relevant experience .
- Ability to handle a varied, busy and pressurized work load with competing demands on time.
- Positive, enthusiastic and self-motivated approach to work.
- Demonstrate resourcefulness and ability to problem solve.
Key performance areas
- Promotes and implements the principles of medicine supply management; ensure that a well-managed process of medicine storage, dispatch and distribution throughout the municipality is achieved.
- Undertakes stock checks in facilities and update minimum and maximum levels.
- Perform National Core Standards and Good Pharmacy Practice assessments in various facilities.
- To provide an equitable, accessible, cost-effective medicine supply to the communities of eThekwini within the legal framework that governs pharmaceutical practice.
- To ensure that pharmaceutical resources are optimally utilized and are of high quality to promote safe medicine prescribing
- Ensure control and safe storage of medicines, pharmaceuticals and equipment are managed within the pharmacy.
- Provide training and mentorship to nursing staff, keep updated and equip all staff with the necessary skills in order for them to execute their functions effectively.
- Assist with the implementation of quality improvement programmes.
- Assist with collection, collation and interpretation of data by undertaking operational research, audits and surveys at the facilities.
- To ensure that there is effective and efficient control of medicine supplies within the allocated budgets.
- Manage all pharmaceutical data and ensure updated information is readily available for statistical and budgetary purposes.
- Ensure all tasks are seen through to completion and perform supervisory duties pertaining to the medicine supplies.
- Ability to work in a multi- disciplinary team with diverse backgrounds and communicate with the relevant stakeholders about information relating to medicines supplied.
- To ensure effective intersectoral interaction and dissemination of relevant pharmaceutical information within a dynamic environment.
