Our client is a medical Specialist running an oncology clinic in Parktown and requires an Oncology Pharmacist who has experience in an Oncology clinic. The candidate will need to have a Pharmacy degree and will be responsible for the safe and accurate preparation of chemotherapy medications, ensuring strict adherence to protocols and guidelines. Their role is critical in supporting the oncology team to deliver the highest quality care to patients. The candidate must have their own transport to travel through to the Pretoria clinic twice a week.
Key Responsibilities
- Chemotherapy Preparation: Prepare chemotherapy and other sterile medications in accordance with established protocols, adhering to strict safety and quality standards. Calculate dosages accurately and compound medications in a sterile environment.
- Medication Dispensing: Dispense chemotherapy medications and provide clear instructions to healthcare providers and patients regarding administration, potential side effects, and safety precautions.
- Quality Assurance: Regularly assess and maintain the quality control of chemotherapy preparation, including checking expiration dates, monitoring environmental conditions, and verifying medication labels.
- Patient Safety: Prioritize patient safety by ensuring that all chemotherapy orders are accurate, properly documented, and free from errors. Verify patient profiles and medical records for allergies and potential drug interactions.
- Collaboration: Work closely with the oncology team, including oncologists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals, to coordinate and communicate the status of chemotherapy medications, treatment plans, and any concerns or issues related to patient care.
- Education: Provide ongoing education and support to healthcare staff on the proper handling, storage, and administration of chemotherapy medications, as well as the management of side effects and patient monitoring.
- Compliance: Stay current with industry standards, regulations, and best practices related to oncology pharmacy services, including the handling and disposal of hazardous materials.
- Inventory Management: Manage and maintain an inventory of chemotherapy drugs, ensuring stock levels are adequate and facilitating the procurement of supplies as needed.
- Record Keeping: Maintain accurate and detailed records of chemotherapy preparations, orders, and patient profiles, including any adverse events or side effects.
- Fluent in both English and Afrikaans
- Pharmacy Degree (BPharm Degree or equivalent)
- Current registration with the HPCSA
- Proficient knowledge of chemotherapy agents, drug interactions, and oncology pharmaceuticals.
- Excellent attention to detail, strong mathematical skills, and a commitment to patient safety.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with a diverse healthcare team.
- Familiarity with relevant laws, regulations, and guidelines governing the handling and disposal of hazardous materials.
