The African Centre for Biodiversity (ACB) is committed to dismantling inequalities in the food and agriculture systems in Africa and the promotion of agro-ecology and food sovereignty. ACB seeks to employ a critical, self-motivated and independent thinker to join our dynamic team to support research and advocacy in southern and Anglophone Africa, focusing on GMOs, biosafety and corporate control work. The position will involve conducting research with ACB, producing high quality research reports, policy engagement and working with the ACB team on communications and advocacy at national and regional levels.
Minimum requirements:
- A recognised Masters’ degree;
- A minimum of 5-8 years of relevant and related research experience (e.g. biosafety, GMOs, corporate control of food systems)
- Understanding of social advocacy
- Proven analytical and English writing skills (based on writing samples);
- Ability to work independently and to tight deadlines with minimal supervision;
- Good computer skills including word processing and web research;
- A valid drivers’ licence.
The following will be an advantage:
- A history of social/environmental activism;
- Experience in working with a diversity of social actors, including small-scale farmers;
- Experience in policy engagement at national and regional levels;
- Ability to speak another language in SADC apart from English.
The successful candidate will be based in Johannesburg but with significant regional travel. Costs of relocation can be negotiated if necessary.
