We are currently looking for a dedicated Principal Accountant based in Johannesburg to provide support to the Country Controller to achieve the overall goals and objectives of Boston Scientific South Africa through the effective execution of statutory and general accounting, financial close process and reporting, internal controls, taxation and other local legal entity related activities as assigned from time to time.
Main Responsibilties
Provides Key Financial Support For South Africa
- Execute month/quarter/year-end Close processes to ensure timely and accurate Close and financial analysis , ensuring accurate accruals compilation and posting, detailed trial balance analysis and review
- Oversee Intercompany accounting activities, including cross charges
- Oversees the maintenance of accounts and records by managing disbursements, expenses and income.
- Drive compliance in all finance-related matters and ensure compliance with Corporate, Intercompany and local policies, statutory requirements.
- Compiles and analyzes financial information through preparation of reports, general ledger entries and journal entries.
- Assures financial accuracy by analysing business unit and consolidated income statements and balance sheets and other accounting statements and reports.
- Maintains a thorough understanding of IFRS and other local statutory accounting requirements
- Understands US GAAP accounting requirements and reconciliation between US GAAP and IFRS
- Takes an active interest in seeking opportunities for continuous improvement and standardizing processes
- Liaise with internal/external auditors (on all audit-related and accounting matters)
- Partner with Global Business Services (GBS) team on all Procure to Pay (PtP) processes
- Works to deliver upon key performance metrics and service levels agreed with business partners
- Review and process capex requests and maintain SAP fixed asset in partnership with GBS
- Take responsibility for fixed assets tagging
- Responsible for monitoring adherence to expense policies by reviewing weekly payment runs
- Works closely with outsourced providers in order to deliver the range of statutory services like CIPC, SARS
- Take the lead in all taxation matters Provisional tax, Annual income tax return, payroll tax submission, Customs tax, internal GAM tax submission, VAT, Tax audits and compliance, Transfer pricing reporting
- Support debtors collection efforts by partnering the customer care team customer visits and other AR analysis reviews
- Perform timely monthly GL account reconciliations
- Perform periodic PO aging analysis
- Lead BEE initiatives new vendor procurement process and other related pillars
- Learn BSC HCP interaction policies and procedures and ensure all payments comply with the applicable policies
- Lead the corporate credit cards program : Issuing/closing/limits/statements/reporting overdues
- Collaboration with banks
- Ensure effective and efficient execution of all assigned SOX control activities
- Act as SAP Key User and actively initiate and participate in improvements to sustain and develop an effective and efficient process
- Lead the budget process for South Africa multi-divs
- Monitor actual expenses vs budget
- Ensures all activities comply with relevant Acts, legal demands, ethical standards and the internal Quality Management System
- University degree in Accounting or equivalent; with further professional qualifications required
- CA(SA) preferred
- Minimum of 5 years in accounting/finance roles of which at least 3 years should be strong focus on general ledger and taxation accounting
- Demonstrate strong financial and analytical skills
- Working knowledge of general office administration duties to establish and support work functions highly desirable
- Demonstrate strong communication skills with both internal and external stakeholders at all levels displaying tact and influence should be fluent in English
- Demonstrate good IT skills in using Advanced Excel, PowerPoint, SAP, Cadency, Tableau
- Pro-active, structured and solution-oriented mindset
- Experience in medical device industry (especially in a multi-national company) is a plus
