We are seeking a candidate with a passion for driving positive impact in industrial decarbonization and the renewable energy sector in South Africa. The candidate should have technical knowledge and experience working on relevant projects in Africa, and knowledge and experience of the South African renewables energy market and legislative permitting requirements, as well as experience working on renewable projects that need to comply with international lender requirements (such as the IFC PS, EPs, etc.).
The successful candidate will work in close partnership with other relevant role players at ERM, positioning ERM as the trusted expert for renewable advisory services in Africa, including strategy development, sales growth, talent acquisition, and acting as a thought leader and ambassador for our brand. Responsibilities will include:
- Provide leadership, and deliver results to expand ERMs client base in the Renewable Energy Sector. Serve as a key member of the core technical team to drive growth in the areas of facility siting & permitting, and environmental risk assessment in the renewable sector.
- Managing onshore renewable projects including (amongst others) ESIAs, Audits, and Due Diligences for a range of clients in both South Africa and other African countries.
- Developing and expanding long-term client relationships that will lead to repeat business and maintain ERMs impressive repeat engagement rate, while supporting or managing successful client engagement, including continual improvement and excellence in customer service.
- Acting in the role(s) of engagement manager, project leader, and/or senior subject matter expert (SME), and potentially account leadership for either key or high-growth, high-value (HGHV) clients.
- Support with winning and delivery of technical work relating to the renewable energy sector in Africa within ERM as needed, including market intelligence and management consulting and actively teaming with colleagues in other offices, regions, and service lines to deliver project opportunities.
- Proposal preparation, sales, business development and client management.
- Preparing and delivering reports, presentations, and other documents for client deliverables.
- Supervising project team(s) and coaching and mentoring more junior staff.
- Bachelors Degree in Environmental Management. A higher degree is an advantage.
- Minimum ten (10 to 12) years of experience in the environmental field (ESIAs, Audits, and Due Diligences).
- Track record of successful delivery to clients within the renewables industry.
- Demonstrated ability to establish and grow a high performing team.
- Track record in selling and delivering consulting services to senior client representatives.
- South African Environmental Assessment Practitioner Registration.
- Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).
- High proficiency with standard industry software tools (e.g., Microsoft Project, Microsoft Office suite).
- Ability to communicate frequently with clients and co-workers and share information effectively.
- Ability to work collaboratively in both office based and remote environments.
- Strong conceptual and analytical skills both quantitative and qualitative.
- Flexibility and responsiveness in managing multiple projects simultaneously (sometimes under pressured conditions).
- Self-motivation with an ability to work independently.
- Proficiency at planning, directing, and coordinating the work activity of others.
- Frequent travel by airplane or car as necessary to perform work at other locations.
