Job Purpose
To maximize sustainable revenue streams and manage risk through originating, structuring, implementing and
monitoring long-term debt financing transactions for clients in the mining, chemicals, metals and mining services
sectors across the African continent.
To provide technical advice and support to deal teams on transactions with notable technical risk.
Job Responsibilities
- Originate, structure and execute investment banking financing transactions in the Mining & Resources sector.
- Lead multiple deal teams across the business through managing client expectations, internal stakeholders and
- deal team members.
- Ultimately responsible for the end-to-end implementation and monitoring of transactions by:
assessing due diligence outcomes;
providing technical advice and support from a geological, mining engineering and processing perspective,
including site visits where necessary;
interrogating financial models and financial statements;
structuring transactions;
running rating and pricing calculations and approvals;
preparing term sheets;
completing credit applications;
reviewing finance documents and participating in the negotiation thereof;
fulfilling conditions precedent;
continuously assessing client performance and completing annual credit reviews; and
ensuring regulatory compliance (sanctions and adverse media screening and adherence to FICA or KYC
regulations, policies, and procedures).
- Provide technical advice and support to other deal teams in the business and the broader portfolio from a geological, mining engineering and processing perspective, including site visits where necessary.
- Lead technical discussions with Independent Technical Engineers appointed by Nedbank or lenders in a syndicate to understand, evaluate and assess technical risks.
- Build and maintain strong client and external stakeholder relationships, including with Independent Technical Engineers, by networking and conferencing, maintaining regular contact, ongoing communication and attending meetings and site visits. Build and maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders by building trust, promoting collaboration, communicating regularly, executing efficiently and complying with governance and controls.
- Be the interface between clients and Nedbanks Social and Environmental Risk (SEMS) team.
- Support the achievement of the teams business strategy, objectives and values by contributing to business plans, improving systems and processes and training junior team members.
- Get involved in ad hoc projects by providing research, advice, training, testing and implementation.
- Actively seek cross-sell opportunities for the products of other Nedbank divisions.
- Manage personal development by acting on feedback from managers and team members, actively accepting on-the-job training and pursuing relevant training courses.
- Stay abreast of developments in the mining, chemicals, metals, and mining services sectors.
- Stay abreast of developments in Nedbank and in investment banking in general.

- Honours degree in Engineering, Sciences, Finance or Accounting
- Mining Engineering, Geology or Metallurgical Engineering, ideally combined with some financial qualification, such as CFA or MBA
- Minimum of 8 to 12 years of relevant experience in corporate, commercial or investment banking and/or in the mining, chemicals, metals or mining services sectors, with a preference for meaningful work experience at mining operations
