POSITION SYNOPSIS:
The purpose of the role is to support South32s existing operations to unlock and protect value where commercial opportunities have been identified. This includes:
- Defining value propositions and commercial strategies by working with Operations, Mine Planning and Business Evaluation;
- Leading and driving agreement negotiations, and managing stakeholder engagements; and
- Managing endorsements and approval to enable transaction/agreement execution.
REQUIREMENTS: Serious contenders must have:
- Bachelor Degree in Business, Commerce, Finance, Law or related disciplines;
- Minimum of 7 years experience in a commercial environment;
- Good experience in developing commercial strategies and leading high value strategic negotiations;
- Strategic / innovative thinking capability, with balanced commercial judgement;
- Knowledge in transaction structuring and transaction management;
- Effective communication skills, including experience in presenting to and influencing senior management; and
- Strong ability to develop interpersonal relationships, thrive in a team environment and lead multi-disciplinary execution teams.
- M&A and transaction advisory services experience; and/or
- Experience in discounted cash flow and valuation more broadly.
CORE ACCOUNTABILITIES: Supporting and enabling key drivers of:
- Capacity support activities to expand or acquire necessary additional capacity or derive commercial benefits from excess capacity;
- Investments pursue investments in assets, equipment, infrastructure and supply where they increase the value of existing operations and/or ensure security of supply for critical inputs;
- Synergies explore opportunities to generate value through partnering/working with other operations or external parties to maximise utilisation of equipment or infrastructure;
- Access ensure timely access to land/minerarights for the development of mining/processing areas and infrastructure to support the long-term mine/processing plan.
Leading and initiating strategic commercial projects (including negotiation and agreements), specifically related to:
- Integrated regional / category projects;
- High risk dispute resolutions;
- Regional corporate business development opportunities;
- Lease and joint venture arrangements;
- Land purchases and sales; and
- Contractual arrangements for the disposal of surplus equipment/infrastructure.
This role is expected to:
- Drive and coach cross functional teams to facilitate value-based investment decisions and identification of risk and uncertainties;
- Ensure delivery against performance targets and build commercial acumen;
- Lead the development and execution of key commercial strategies and mandates to support business objectives; and
- Lead the development of transaction structures and commercial agreements.
