Your responsibilities will include:
- Develop access network infrastructure blueprints that optimize energy efficiency this includes the specification and selection site cabinet, HVAC, rack space and energy that meet the current and evolved access site requirements.
- Drive power savings and consumption reduction using free cooling configurations and renewable energy sources.
- Drive the creation and evolution of the power strategy and guidelines across all OPCOs in the Access Network Domain
- Provide project management support on the rollout of POCs and key power projects according to strategic requirements.
- Evaluate market initiatives to identify best practice for incorporation to the power strategy evolution.
- To assist in the measurement and verification of the performance on energy savings initiatives
- Develop and provide strategic guidance on best practices on energy management systems.
- To design and architect energy infrastructure including but not limited to grid power, solar, batteries, generators and alternate energy sources.
- Management of vendors and engagements with stakeholders on energy related roadmaps to support the energy strategies across all OPCOs
- To assist with feasibility studies and cost estimate for new solutions including renewable energy technologies
- Drive the standardization and optimization of energy infrastructure and deployment processes across all OPCOs
- Implement frameworks to drive improvement of power availability across all Opcos
- Support in the design and execution of preventative and corrective operations and maintenance of energy infrastructure
- Prepare business cases for key energy initiatives
- Engage vendors and other subject matter experts to derive innovative ideas that will drive energy efficiency across all OPCOs to support the Vodafone global greenhouse gas program.
- Monthly & ad hoc reporting related on energy performance & initiatives
- Where required, perform cost-benefit analysis associated with specific technical scenarios and trials under consideration
- Design and scope generators to include highest efficiency engines
- Strategically incorporate and select equipment that could potentially be converted to more sustainable energy sources in the future.
- Select switchgear to avoid GHG emissions, i.e. vacuum breakers vs. SF6
- Design circuits to incorporate additional energy sources
- Scope new builds for renewables
- Include condition-based monitoring equipment to ensure equipment operate optimally
- Include measuring equipment to improve reporting

Must have technical/professional qualifications:
- Matric (Essential)
- Minimum 3 year Technology Degree/Diploma or an equivalent NQF Level 6 qualification (Essential)
- Energy Management Certification (Advantageous)
- A minimum or 8-10 years relevant experience in energy infrastructure and operations, preferably in the Telco, Industry (Essential)
- In depth knowledge of telecommunications networks and infrastructure (Essential)
- Experience in analysis and technical investigations, research in telecommunications Industry (Essential)
- Proven experience in negotiation and management of outsourced operations is essential
- Commercial awareness appreciating the importance of revenue achievement, margin control and ROI whilst maintaining excellence.
- Creativity and innovation in managing efficient network operations
- Exposure and experience in data driven decision making
- Experience in interacting with OpCos in Africa would be most advantageous.
- Experience in large scale network engineering roles essential, preferably to have been within a mobile network environment.
- Effective management of own workload and that of a virtual team.
