About Platformer Alkylation Unit plant is a key facility in the petroleum refining industry, specifically designed for the production of high-octane gasoline components. The process involves the reaction of isobutane with olefins, typically propylene or butylene, in the presence of a catalyst like hydrofluoric acid or sulfuric acid. This alkylation reaction produces branched-chain hydrocarbons, enhancing the octane rating of gasoline. The plant includes reaction vessels, acid settler units, and fractionation towers to separate and purify the resulting alkylate product. Platformer Alkylation plays a crucial role in meeting gasoline specifications by improving its anti-knock properties, ensuring the production of high-quality fuels.

Purpose of Job

A Process Controller Gr 2 operates process equipment and systems for a specific plant/unit within the Sasol environment to achieve production requirements safely.

Recruitment Description / Key Accountabilities

Perform effective shift handover. Performing gas tests for vessel entries and Hot work Mixing process chemicals. Handling of process chemicals Compilation of shift log Conduct safety Operation Control Systems (OCS) inspections, e.g., OSH, ISO 14001, 18000, 9001. Participate in incident/accident prevention Report all deviations Clean plant/ensure the plant is cleaned and house keeping up to standard Monitor and report on an emergency preparedness exercised Perform tasks on equipment as per signed-off Career Guide complete permit training Perform level 2 standby Participate in potential deviation analysis (PDA, root cause analysis) (RCA and risk assessments) Identify and report defects Identify and report risks behaviours Take corrective action on lab results Conduct product/grade changes Apply SOPs (Standard Operating Procedure) during normal operation, shut down and start up Follow modified plant procedures after implementation Apply PSM standards (Process Safety Management) Participate in start-up and shutdown Adhere to permit to work procedure Adherence to SHERQ standards (ISO, ASHAS and implemented) SHERQ processes Actively involved in behaviour-based safety program on shift Support the alignment of work (e.g., maintenance, Technical department Participate in the resolution of performance problems Utilize resources e.g., raw materials, people that are available on site Support diversity in the workplace Coaching and technical training of fellow workers Accountable for own competence on plant Manage own performance Get results through empowering others to act Live company values and ensures compliance of team to the values Contribute to team motivation and wellness Understand customer requirements and ensures product/services meets customer requirements Effective networking and liaison with P&SM, technical, engineering and financial departments Identifies and supports interdependencies (synergies with own and other departments) Ensure the transition of work from own shift to next shift Support drive for overall equipment effectiveness (OEE of the plant) Apply new ideas/work methods to improve results Provide information/assist with projects with technical / support functions Assist with implementation of organisational change initiatives within own team.

Formal Education

Full N3 with Maths & Science & Business English or Grade 12 with Math, Science & English.

NQF Level 2 Certificate Minimum.

Min Experience

2 years+ experience in a Chemical/Petrochemical Processing Environment) (Must)

Competent in working on a within a Platformer Alkylation Unit plant / oil refinery plant.

Must be able to work at heights.
