Job Duties
Business Development and Support
- Assist the Senior/Principal Lead Engineers or Project Managers by attending tender briefings, providing inputs into tender documentation, writing method statements, assisting with pricing calculations and providing general support during tender processes as and when required and in line with skills level and training provided.
- Comply with Company procedures and processes in terms of project registration and risk analysis.
- Comply with Quality procedures by ensuring auditable trail of actions during full life cycle of project delivery process all in accordance with company Quality Management Procedures.
- Comply with and embrace Health and Safety requirements in the workplace as well as on construction sites.
- Ensure that project start-up processes are followed, and the project scoping is clear and approved.
- Prepare designs and reports, assist Lead Engineers/Project Managers with cost estimates, and liaise with other professionals, both internally and externally.
- Assessing and quantifying post closure water treatment/management liabilities and costs associated with these liabilities.
- Conduct water use optimisation studies.
- Conduct water treatment technology scanning and selection studies.
- Review tender and construction documents for compliance with applicable codes/standards/guidelines/client specifications.
- Develop detail designs, manage the preparation of drawings, and prepare tender documentation.
- Promote cost reduction and productivity-enhancing initiatives.
- Facilitate and assist with the tender and adjudication process leading up to contractor appointment and site handover.
- Monitor and manage construction activities or assist the Lead Engineer in this regard, including the following:
- Attending site and inspection meetings.
- Assist the Lead Engineer with managing changes to the work scope.
- Managing installation quality and compliance with specifications.
- Assist Lead Engineer with project finances, including preparation of invoices and financial administration.
- Managing and witness testing and commissioning of works.
- Assist the Lead Engineer with the close-out of projects.
- Liaise with other Professional and Discipline Engineers to ensure accurate and timely communications to ensure the best overall project delivery outcomes.
- Participate in continuous professional development activities and training to gain/maintain professional registration.
- Assist with technical training and mentoring of others who are registered as in-training engineers/technologists.
- Maintain good working relations with all stakeholders, both internal and external to the Company and always demonstrate professionalism.
- Interact with leaders and peers in such a way to command respect and to grow leadership skills.
- Appreciation and enthusiasm for Water and Wastewater Process Engineering and its principles with an eagerness to grow into a knowledgeable Senior Water Engineer to lead multidisciplinary projects.

- Hold a B.Eng. degree (the possession of a post-graduate qualification in water engineering it will be an advantage).
- Eligible for registration (Pr. Eng.) within 1 year of commencement of duties or proven to have already applied for ECSA Pr. Eng. registration.
- Have an excellent command of business communication
- Have at least 6+ years technical and practical experience in water engineering projects.
- Have technical and practical engineering skills in the engineering design of public, private and industrial infrastructure, including bulk potable water pipelines, sewer systems, pump stations and associated infrastructure (basic access road design will be an added advantage).
- Have proficiency in water treatment simulation software (minimum of 5 consecutive years working experience in this regard). A working knowledge of BioWin and RO simulation software such as Winflows and WAVE will be of benefit.
- Have a basic working knowledge of drafting software (e.g. process flow diagram and P&ID development).
- A well-developed understanding of all the related engineering disciplines involved in the design of public, private and industrial infrastructure projects.
- Ensure all designs are checked and approved by the relevant manager (professionally registered) prior to forwarding to the relevant client and contractor.
- Ensure that projects are finished on schedule and under budget by working together with Project Managers/other Engineers.
- Prepare and present technical reports and presentations to clients and other stakeholders.
- Ensure that water infrastructure systems are designed and installed per applicable codes, standards and regulations.
- Stay up-to-date with emerging technologies and industry trends related to water engineering.
- Valid drivers license and willingness to travel to project sites within South Africa and Africa if required.
