Seed Production Manager

A dynamic agricultural company, specializing in maize and soybean seed, is seeking an experienced Seed Production Field Manager to manage the seed production of various field crop seeds, by leading, training and improving the Field Seed Production team and aiming to improve the level of parent seed and commercial seed production, according to the production plan.

Minimum Requirements For The Role
  • Must have a tertiary agriculture qualification
  • Minimum 5 years work experience in a seed production environment will be required
  • Agronomy knowledge including planting nurseries, seed production and field trials is essential
  • Above-average communication skills, specifically in English and Afrikaans with the ability to interface with internal and external stakeholders of all levels and experience are important
  • Willingness to work to tight timelines, especially during high season
  • Must have a valid drivers license and be willing to travel
The Successful Candidate Will Be Responsible For
  • Executing (parent and commercial) seed production of hybrid maize, soybean, sunflower, and other possible field crop seeds according to the production plan.
  • Taking part in planning the production of parent seed supply and commercial seeds.
  • Contacting and working together with seed growers to be establishing adequate suitable lands, managing planting, supervising, and inspecting production fields during the plant growing period, assuring Quality Plan during production until harvest and delivery.
  • Liaising with Government and SANSOR seed authorities regarding Certifications, Phyto-sanitary documents, and other required permits.
  • Taking part in administration and record-keeping of the Seed Production Department.
  • Implementing Safety, Health, Environment as well as ISO procedures.
  • Working freely and independently but keeping close contact with the Production Director.
  • Providing leadership to the field management of the Seed Production Department.
  • Improving the level of the parent seed as well as commercial seed production.
  • Taking part in Parent Testing trials.
  • Utilizing and developing the performance capacity of the farm workforce via sound management, training, and continuous improvement.
