Overall purpose of the role

The Global Opportunities Professional provides comprehensive and effective Global Opportunities support to the country Global Opportunities Manager. The Global Opportunities Professional manages the full international assignment lifecycle, while ensuring efficiency, high-quality service and compliance resulting in a smooth transition of the assignee. The Global Opportunities Professional acts as an advisor and first point of contact to provide the relevant in-depth business advice and guidance on KPMGs Global Opportunities program, including policies and procedures to the assignees and business leaders.

Functional knowledge

  • The highest level of quality is provided on all secondment processes, and practices. i.e.
  • Ensuring the secondment terms and conditions letters are accurately drafted.
  • Ensuring the secondment cost sharing agreements are accurately drafted (short- and long-term secondments)
  • Drafting of the secondment offers using the Global templates provided
  • Working with the host Global Opportunities teams to ensure both countries terms and conditions are incorporated.
  • Working with the South African GMS Tax immigration team to ensure assignees arrive in South Africa with the correct work permits/visa.
  • Working with the South African GMS Tax team to ensure South African tax compliance for all assignees.
  • Working with South Africa Legal and Risk team to ensure that we compliant with the MFE templates for remote working arrangements, as well as adhering to all of our POPI Act regulations for personal information shared with other network countries.
  • Secondment Financials for each assignee is in order:
  • Ensure assignment costings are in line with cost projections and the budgets that were set by the Business Units
  • Timely completion of respective invoices and prepare cheque requisitions for reimbursements of Relocation allowances and per diems.
  • Ensure the Business Unit Partner approves all costs and invoices for payment.
  • Manage monthly Global Opportunities Tax journals received from the Tax immigration department
  • Ensuring that flight costs are in line with the approved Cost Projection and book the cheapest option.
  • Prepare and maintain the Profit Forecast spreadsheet for Busy Season.
  • Manage the end-to-end process on all Global Opportunities assignments incl. the Audit Busy Season and other Global Opportunities Programs:
  • Briefing sessions held with each assignee to ensure they understand the secondment process.
  • Ensure that business understands their commitment on a secondment.
  • Ensure that cost projections are prepared accurately, concise and provided to business timely.
  • Ensure the secondment terms and conditions letters are discussed with the assignee
  • Ensure communication with the host office, home business and all supporting functions are maintained throughout the assignment.
  • Ensure all essential secondment documentation is fully signed and filed.
  • Ensure all appropriate costs are billed accurately and timely.
  • Ensure that all inbound logistics are arranged and communicated to assignee and business timely.
  • Ensure that Global Opportunities data is maintained and updated. (Dashboard, Busy Season spreadsheets, LINKE & Success Factors data)
  • Ensure payroll is in order for all assignees and all allowances have been paid.
  • Ensure Tax compliance on all secondments.
  • Assisting the assignee with flight bookings and point of contact for local Travel Agents
Business expertise

  • Enable Strategy: Understand the firms strategy, the global strategy, the EMA strategy, and the South African function strategy and incorporate these strategies into all international assignment discussions at all levels.
  • Delivery of top priority Global Opportunities Projects against the specified strategies, objectives and measures e.g., Audit Busy Season program
  • Advise business and prospective assignees on secondment policy, packages, and practice.

  • Take on a mentoring and coaching role for the Interns that join the Global Opportunities team and also the the Global Opportunities Specialist

  • Work confidently with HR Managers, Business Unit Partners and assignees ensuring an excellent service at all times combined with a sense of urgency, responsibility and accountability.
  • Assist the Global Opportunities team with testing the Global Opportunities Technology platforms and provide feedback to the relevant stakeholders.
  • Understanding the business culture of the foreign countries, keeping an open mind when interacting with assignees and Global Opportunities counterparts from other nationalities.
  • Ensure secondment related costs are accurately calculated, recorded, and maintained.
  • Monitoring and analysing the monthly Tax Compliance Journals received from the Tax immigration team in CT & Jhb and sending the reviewed costs for approval to Business Unit Partner.
Interpersonal skills

  • Conducting assignment briefings with inbound and outbound assignees.
  • Preparing and sending standard communications to assignees, business contacts such as Payroll, HR, IT, Tax & other vendors
  • Sending updates to Business Unit Partners and Global Opportunities assignees
  • Preparing the Global Opportunities assignment offers for inbound Short-Term & Long-Term assignees
  • Responding to all e-mail, telephone and MS Teams enquiries in a prompt and professional manner.

  • Have a good knowledge and understanding of the Global Opportunities policies and procedures in order to mitigate risks and be able to solve problems that arise which directly affects the assignee or the business. Each assignment case is unique, so there needs to be a level of discretion to solve problems relevant to the assignment.
  • Be able to advise the business and assignee on the secondment packages and best practice and be up to speed with any major trends or challenges that may be relevant to the Business Unit.

  • Be able to supervise/manage the team and attend to queries and solve problems in the Global Opportunities Managers absence.
  • Ability to escalate to Business Unit Partners for high-level decision making in the absence of the Global Opportunities Manager.
  • Be able to approve costs and invoices in line with the Cost Projections approved by business. i.e. Cheque Requisitions, Flight bookings & other assignment related costs in Managers absence.
