Main Objectives

To ensure overall co-ordination of the RUCE Engaged Citizenry Programmes. Manage Programmes in the VCs Education Initiative (Makhanda Literacy Collective, which includes the Budding Q Literacy Programme) is focussed, well-planned, data-driven, organised and coordinated, respectful, mutually beneficial and undertaken in the spirit of reciprocity. This forms part of the institutional plan to address access to RU, social justice and inequality and the VCs Education Programme goals for Makhanda.

The Requirements

A relevant B. Degree (preferably in Education): candidates with a relevant postgraduate qualification will be at an advantage plus six (6) years of relevant experience where such experience includes: -
  • Previous administrative and coordination experience in running a programme
  • Ability to work within a computerised administration environment
  • Experience and interest in early literacy development
  • Demonstrable community development experience,
  • Experience in volunteering
  • Previous experience within a service-orientated environment where liaison and the provision of sound advice and/or service were key responsibilities

Remuneration Per Annum (Grade 14)

Basic Pensionable Salary per annum: R567 321

Cost to Company per annum (Approximately): R741 659

All applications will be treated in strict confidence. This post is advertised as permanent post, but the University may opt to appoint on a fixed-term contract of not less than three-years. Rhodes University has a vaccination mandate as part of its Conditions of Service. The implementation of the vaccine mandate has been held in abeyance from 01 January 2023.
