The company is growing rapidly from a low base after a recent period of low activity in the industry and is seeking dynamic managers able to lead this growth process.
- A suitable candidate to fill the position of Design Manager is required. The incumbent will be responsible for managing the Engineering Group to produce outputs that are fit for purpose, in alignment with customer requirements and organisational objectives, and produced on time and cost effectively.
- Based in Cape Town, the Design Manager will lead, manage and direct the multi-disciplinary engineering / draughting team to produce outputs that are fit for purpose, aligned to project requirements, in a timely and cost effective manner.
Job requirements:
- University degree in Engineering, preferably with a mechanical emphasis
- Minimum 15 years of experience in various aspects of mineral processing and related industries, preferably in the EPCM/EPC design environment.
- Background in diamond projects, with an understanding of mechanical engineering designs associated with diamond recovery processes; OR
- Specific Technical expertise in at least one major unit process e.g. crushing, flotation, etc.
- Will have managed design groups using 2D and 3D design software packages and operating seamlessly in a multi-office, multidisciplinary environment.
- Capability of detailed scoping of design studies and engineering design packages.
- Experience of effective interaction at all levels with project management and control, procurement and contracting, construction management, process design and commissioning functions.
- Ability to interact with client organisations and partners at senior level, for project delivery.
Job responsibilities:
- Ensure the consistent quality of output of the multi-discipline engineering / drafting teams, alignment with the needs of the client, company objectives and OH&S regulatory requirements. In particular, ensure project design requirements are translated and implemented as practical engineering designs.
- Ensure safety in design and technical integrity is at the forefront of the engineering design process.
- Manage project design budget and schedule through the project agreed Management of Change process.
- Develop and maintain the various design standards, specifications, procedures and software necessary to ensure that engineering deliverables can all be produced on time, within budget and to the required quality.
