Who we are looking for?

We are looking for a motivated intern with a strong interest in impact finance and project management more generally. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, proactive, and capable of managing multiple tasks efficiently. The candidate should have a genuine passion for making a difference in emerging and frontier markets. The candidate may have already undergone a PMO certification or intends to pursue one. Based in our Cape Town office, the successful candidate will be part of the Symbiotics Capacity Building team, collaborating closely under the supervision of the business development manager.

The intern at SYCB plays a supporting role in administrating, consolidating, and expanding the activities of the Business Development unit, with a focus on Strategy Design and project management. Under the supervision of the Business Development Manager, the intern contributes to the execution of project management throughout its full cycle, boosting the units strategic initiatives.

PROJECT MANAGEMENT
  • Initiates project management protocols as outlined for the Strategy Design client vertical in coordination with the business development manager.
  • Supports with the administration affairs of the unit, organizes the logistics and participate in meetings with clients when possible - and management to determine the scope, size, and duration of each project.
  • Contributes to the projects management using Monday.com and other tools of the unit, such as Excel and Python.
  • Assists in monitoring project progress to ensure timely delivery of all parties contributions.
  • Assists with internal and external reporting to the relevant committees, working groups, and clients.
  • Contributes to recommendations to enhance project management practices and coordinates with the Project Management Office (PMO).
NETWORKING AND CLIENT RELATIONSHIP
  • Contributes through project management activities to developing SYCBs client and donor network.

We are looking for a dynamic person who is highly organized, autonomous, and able to work effectively in a dynamic and challenging environment. More specifically, we have the following requirements:
  • Strong interest in project management with experience in using tools like Monday.com, Excel, and Python
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Ability to manage administrative tasks and logistics efficiently
  • Desire to help monitor project progress and ensure timely delivery
  • Desire to learn internal and external reporting practices
  • Eager to contribute to making recommendations to enhance project management practices
  • Fluency in English, French is a plus
