Job OverviewThe purpose of this role is to scope, develop and manage consulting assignments across OneWorlds programmes of work. Included in this, amongst others, will be developing budgets, negotiating contracts, subcontracting and communicating with multi-disciplinary teams. The consultant will work with the CEO, programme manager, project managers, project co-ordinators and the project team.
Primary ResponsibilitiesThe project manager will be required to:
- Scope, co-ordinate, manage and execute projects
- Act as the principal point of contact in terms of project management issues, for the project delivery team as well as the client for each project
- Ensure all aspects of the ToR (Terms of Reference) are adhered to
- Develop, monitor and manage detailed project budgets, within project budgets
- Ensure timely delivery of all project deliverables
- Interface with project lead, clients and associates/sub-consultants
- Develop and manage associate/subconsultant contracts
- Ensure timely delivery by the associates/sub-consultants on all projects
- Coordinate all travel arrangements including hotel, flights and other logistical arrangements through the Administrative Manager
- Undertake Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) activities per project
- Regularly facilitate or co-facilitate project workshops
- Contribute to OneWorlds business development processes including client and partner relationships, proposal development and project finance/budget planning
- A sound academic background with a degree in Project Management, International Development or another relevant field
- At least 4 years' work experience, 2 of these (minimum) as part of a consultancy
- The ability to work under pressure and manage multiple projects
- Proven track record in managing multiple projects simultaneously and meeting deadlines with quality delivery
- Proven ability to adopt a structured, logical approach to projects and pay careful attention to detail
- Excellent writing and presentation skills with ability to relay technical concepts and research in an easily understandable and relevant manner
Key behavioural requirements include:The candidate should have strong analytical and problem-solving skills, as well as proven interpersonal/relationship building skills. The candidate should be a team player with ability to co-ordinate and work within complex, multi-disciplinary teams. The candidate should also be well organised with the ability to effectively plan and prioritise tasks to achieve project deadlines. Flexibility and adaptability are critical for this role.
It would be advantageous, but not a prerequisite, to have experience in Climate Change, Development Studies, Economic Development, Environmental Science, Sustainable Development or a related discipline.
Location: This position is office-based in Cape Town.
Remuneration will be market-based and calculated on a cost-to-company basis.
