Project Manager (C&I) - Smelters (Mining) - Contract - Rustenburg

Our client, a leading mining concern, is looking for a C&I Project Manager to join their smelters team in Rustenburg. The role is a 12 month contract (renewable).

The successful individual will be responsible for executing multiple projects (approximately 10) across various smelters, as well as a plant.

Projects include upgrading of control software, replacement of control and instrumentation hardware, as well as upgrading total systems from profi-bus/ASi to profi-net. The Project Manager will be supported by a team of dedicated and shared resources to fulfill his/her duties.

The PM will perform a wide range of duties, and will take responsibility at an operational level for the planning and delivery of the project scope of work.

Duties will include, but are not limited to, the following:

Plan The Project
  • Define the scope of the project in collaboration with senior management
  • Create a detailed work plan which identifies and sequences the activities needed to successfully complete the project
  • Determine the resources (time, money, equipment, etc.) required to complete the project
  • Develop a schedule for project completion that effectively allocates the resources to the activities
  • Review the project schedule with senior management and all other staff that will be affected by the project activities; revise the schedule as required
  • Determine the objectives and measures upon which the project will be evaluated at its completion
Resource The Project
  • In consultation with the appropriate manager, recruit, interview and select project resources with appropriate skills for the project activities
  • Ensure that all project personnel receive an appropriate orientation to the organization and the project
  • Manage project resources to deliver on agreed deliverables
  • Contract qualified consultants to work on the project as appropriate
Implement The Project
  • Execute the project according to the project plan
  • Monitor the progress of the project and make adjustments as necessary to ensure the successful completion of the project
  • Establish a communication schedule to update stakeholders including appropriate staff in the organization on the progress of the project
  • Review the quality of the work completed with the project team on a regular basis to ensure that it meets the project standards
Control The Project
  • Compile project reports
  • Monitor and approve as per delegation of authority, all budgeted project expenditure
  • Monitor cash flow projections and report actual cash flow and variance on a regular basis
  • Manage all project funds according to Group policy, procedure and governance
  • Ensure that all financial records for the project are up to date
Evaluate The Project
  • Ensure that the project deliverables are on time, within budget and at the required level of quality
  • Evaluate the outcomes of the project as established during the planning phase
Project Selection
  • Identify Stay-In-Business (SIB) project opportunities.
  • Obtain SIB project opportunities from clients including comprehensive End-User Requirements.
  • Update Opportunity Register and submit to Capital Master
Initiating
  • Set up and initiate project according to the company SIB Project Management Guideline and Investment Development Method (IDM).
  • Compile the Project Set up Pack (PSP).
  • Assist the client with the development of the Business Case.
  • Obtain SIB Capital vote approval.
  • Select the Project Development Method according to segmentation.
  • Identify and appoint the project team members.
  • Identify project stakeholders.
Planning
  • Obtain inputs from relevant disciplines and develop the Project Management Plan with all its appendices
  • Collect requirements and develop the project scope of work.
  • Oversee the development of the Work Breakdown Structure.
  • Oversee the development of the cost budget estimate (CBE).
  • Oversee the development of the project execution schedule.
  • Arrange for and attend risk assessments and HAZOPs.
  • Contribute to quantitative risk assessments.
  • Assist with design concepts for all disciplines.
  • Determine the procurement strategy.
  • Develop the Procurement Operating Plan (POP).
  • Incorporate previous projects' lessons learned. Communicate to Corporate and Functional Centres in the case of injuries, incidents, HPI (high potential incidents) and fatalities within the defined timeframes
  • Manage the distribution and compilation of Safety, Health and Environment communication material
  • Track invoicing and payments on internal SAP orders. Extract SAP reports and back-up as required for SHE related detail.
Executing, Monitoring And Control
  • Assist the Procurement department with tenders.
  • Conduct tender evaluation and adjudications.
  • Assist with contractor appointments.
  • Conduct the project kick-off meeting.
  • Control the project scope.
  • Manage scope changes.
  • Control project quality.
  • Oversee schedule control.
  • Oversee cost control.
  • Manage issues.
  • Manage incidents.
  • Manage decisions.
  • Monitor and control risks.
  • Manage early warnings.
  • Manage project communications.
  • Manage Human Capital.
  • Manage contracts (NEC, AP42 etc.).
  • Document lessons learned.
  • Oversee the review and approval of engineering drawings.
  • Oversee engineering QA/QC for fabrication and construction.
  • Manage the development of Human Capital.
  • Conduct progress meetings with contractors.
  • Conduct feedback meetings with the client.
  • Conduct project technical meetings.
  • Develop project progress reports.
  • Ensure operational readiness.
  • Arrange and oversee Cold Commissioning.
Handover And Close-Out
  • Arrange and oversee Hot Commissioning with the client.
  • Arrange and conduct the handover meeting with the client.
  • Confirm Technical Close-Out of the project.
  • Confirm Contractual Close-Out of the project.
  • Confirm Administrative Close-Out of the project.
  • Document and communicate lessons learned.
  • Oversee the issuing of the Beneficial Hand-Over Certificate.
  • Issue the Final Hand-Over Certificate.
  • Develop and submit the Project Close-Out Report for Close-Out approval at Head Office.
  • Receive the approved Project Close-Out Report from Head Office.
  • Monitor Final Closure of the project on SAP.
  • Assist in the handover of the As-Built drawings, data books, operating manuals and other documents to the client.
  • Develop a Post Investment Report to be completed by the client if required (Business improvement projects only).
  • Oversee the filing and archiving of all project documentation in the Project File.
Safety, Health And Environment
  • Ensure that site teams conduct Risk Assessments for construction activities.
  • Ensure adherence to site specific Safety, Health Environment (SHE) Requirements.
  • Ensure that site resources assist with conducting Safety Meetings with the Safety Officers to ensure compliance.
Governance
  • Manage project delivery according to SIB Project Management Office policies, procedures and systems.
  • Manage project audits with regards to policies, procedures and systems.
  • Ensure that the project is compliant within the legal framework established
  • Ensure compliance in terms of SIB Framework regarding contractual issues.
  • Manage customer and client relationship (external, internal and cross discipline interfaces).
Requirements
  • Relevant degree/diploma in Engineering/Technical/Construction discipline or equivalent Project Management
  • 5 years project experience in the following:
  • Engineering / Production / Construction / Quantity Surveyor / Town Planning / Project Management environment
  • Construction Management

  • Mining and Process Plant and related operations environment
  • Project Management
  • Mining, Process Plant, Logistics, Infrastructure, Quantity Surveyor, Town Planning
  • Advanced skill in Enterprise Project Management Systems, e.g.: MS-Projects, Primavera P6, Prism, SAP
  • Own vehicle and valid driver's license
  • Own laptop
