Job Description
Our client is a leading multinational gold mining company with operations in West Africa. This person will be responsible for planning and overseeing an Expansion Project (Phase 1), co-ordinating people and processes to deliver the project on time, within budget and with the desired outcomes aligned to Company objectives. This reports directly into the Group Study & Supply Manager.
Responsibilities
- Preparing scopes of work, budgets and schedules for the delivery of the project
- Lead a small project team and liaise with internal stakeholders to; manage an EPCM consultant to deliver the Process Plant Upgrades; and deliver the self-perform parts of the Project.
- Establish and maintain processes for managing scope during the project lifecycle, setting quality and performance standards and assessing risks
- Regular, timely and succinct reporting on budget and schedule performance of Project
- Monthly high-level reporting
- Co-ordination of key consultants and contract personnel via preparation of confidentiality agreements, engagement letters, data packages, and proposal analysis as required
- Regular visits and liaison with site management
- Present to the Project Steering Committee, as required
- Demonstrate a strong focus on health, safety and the environment behaviour and competence
- Comply at all times with Company Health & Safety and Environmental Policies
- Develop a broader knowledge of the business to assist in making good business decisions;
- Work to achieve results by taking personal accountability for individual and team objectives;
- Make decisions in the context of current company and regional metrics and delivering outcomes within required timeframes; and
- Actively participating in personal development opportunities
- Practice consistent and visible leadership behaviour
- Identification of internal resource requirements and to perform project management functions as well as the recommendation of suitable contractors or full-time personnel for review by the roles line manager
- Tertiary qualification in one of the following fields: Engineering, Quantity Surveying, or Economics.
- Possession of a Project Management Professional certification (PMP) or working towards
- 5 10 years experience working in a similar role
- Experience in all aspects of Project Management.
- Experience in executing Processing Plant upgrades from design, execution, commissioning and ramp-up.
- Experience is delivering projects in remote locations.
- Experience in commercial management, especially of EPCM contracts.
- Experience in working in an owners project team.
- Experience in working in medium and small mining companies, gold would be ideal.
- Attention to detail and strong commercial acumen.
- Skilled in management, negotiation, influencing, problem solving, communication and ability to represent the business.
- Ability to manage a team of qualified and experienced staff and contractors
- This position will initially be working remotely from Johannesburg, South Africa with the engineers, for the design phase and will then be expected to move to site for the execution phase, on a 6:3 FIFO roster
- 2 year contract extendable
- USD payment
- A lot of autonomy will be provided in this role so a self-starter personality is a must
