Our client is one of the worlds largest producers and marketers of copper, with mining operations and development projects in key mining regions of Africa, Australia and America. They operate on a large-scale copper and cobalt deposits, both open pit and underground, with high-grade mineral reserves.
The Role
The role is accountable for services and systems support to the Senior Manager Copper Projects Services and Capital Management across the assets in the Africa region.
The Responsibilities
- Ensure capital investments into the Africa region of the copper business, whether for sustaining or expansionary purposes is appropriately motivated, executed and managed according to established policy, procedures and practices.
- It is focused on implementing systems to support the Capital Management Governance and Assurance through the deployment of the Capital Management Framework (CMF).
- Implement and provide input to the Copper Capital Management Framework, including relevant processes, systems and structures for Africa region in line with the standard global approach.
- Provide capital project governance and assurance activities across the Africas project portfolio for the Copper business, including interaction with and coordination of the Copper Investment Committee
- Ensure effective project reporting is consistent across the project portfolio to increase transparency, assist informed strategic decision making and controls processes to enable timely on-budget delivery of project objectives
- Provide analytics and strategic advice to inform the Copper Portfolio Capital Planning and Program Management requirements of the portfolio, including inputs into portfolio management processes such as projects priority rankings and investment decision evaluations.
- Conduct as directed detailed project cost estimation and schedule reviews independently from stage gate assurance across projects either in the relevant region or elsewhere globally.
- Provide strategic advice and identification of risks, ensuring all the necessary project requirements and standards have been adhered to.
- Work in partnership with the Life of Asset (LoA), LOMP, Technical and Operational Excellence teams to identify opportunities to codify best practice and new innovations into the appropriate project stages in deliver a step change in operating performance for new businesses or significant business extensions.
- Innovation and improvement of project management methodology, practices and build strategies to mitigate risk to projects or improve capital effectiveness.
- Foster a learning and continuous improvement culture to improve all aspects of the business performance, sustainability and business growth, leading the identification and implementation of improvement initiatives, including portfolio opportunities for increased capital efficiency and productivity in the project services function.
- Guides and coaches project personnel (internal and external contractors and consultants where appropriate) on the requirements for the implementation of the CMF.
- Tertiary Qualifications Engineering, Projects management and/or related disciplines.
- 15+ years experience in a similar role within the resources/industrial industry.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills across all levels of the organization
- Strong leadership and relationship building skills both including internal and external stakeholders.
- Semi-autonomous, self-motivated, highly pro-active and resilient attitude.
- Business, facilitation, analytical, leadership/ management and negotiation capabilities.
- Commercial and financial acumen.
- English language skills.
- Resource experience working with project delivery organisations in Central Africa preferred.
- Relevant project owners teams or engineering service provider experience.
