Property Facultative Francophone Underwriter

Munich Reinsurance Company of Africa Limited (MRoA) has been operating in South Africa for 50 years, although the Munich Re (Group) was active on the Continent via Munich Re in Munich for some years prior to commencing the Southern African operation in Johannesburg in 1968. The Head Office of MRoA is in Johannesburg, with a client service Life office situated in Cape Town.

The Business Unit

Reporting into the Head of Facultative Property, the Facultative Team is responsible for underwriting and ensuring the profitability of the single-risk facultative reinsurance portfolio for Property, Engineering, and Casualty risks in South Africa and Sub-Saharan Africa.

The Team

The Property Facultative Team is a dynamic team of professionals who tackle the various opportunities and challenges associated with client management, market relationships, lead generation, pricing, underwriting, managing Munich Res sub-Saharan facultative portfolio.

Your Job:

• Developing and growing a sustainable book of business and exploiting new business potentials through active development of relationships with clients and brokers in Francophone Sub-Saharan Africa and in South Africa.
• Underwriting facultative property business, including assessing underwriting hazards, evaluating and providing reinsurance terms and conditions in accordance with the applicable underwriting authority, underwriting guidelines, internal directives, targets and client strategies.
• Organizing and contributing to seminars/workshops for clients and internal staff, providing clients with value-added services.
• Assisting the treaty team in evaluating special treaty acceptance requests from a technical point of view as and when required.
• Investigating and evaluating portfolio performance and market analysis.
• Maintaining and expanding technical and market know-how.

Your Profile:

• Business degree and/or suitable insurance qualifications such as ACII/AIISA.
• Minimum of 8 years professional experience in Facultative / Single Risk Property direct insurance or reinsurance.
• French language skills to minimum level required for business relationships.
• Expert communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.
• Negotiation skills, strong teamwork skills, and a willingness to share knowledge.
• Excellent communication skills (written and spoken).
• Solution-oriented with a focused, proactive, and efficient work style.
